Android Auto app not appearing after update
Hi guys,
I've been looking all over the Internet and this forum and can't seem to find a solution to this problem. I've got a BMW X3 G01 (2019 build) with Apple car play but no AA. I have iDrive 7. I had someone upgrade the software to Nov 2022, and AA is still not showing, and my phone is saying 'looking for Android Auto' whenever connecting to the car with no joy. I tried updating apps and services, restarting head unit by 30 second on volume option and no joy. I chatted with bmw and the lady said that X3 before 2020 isn't compatible with AA but I've seen multiple people on this forum getting it. What am I missing here please? |

I definitely have idrive 7 with full digital dash. Attached.
Also, someone had a similar problem with the same car build as mine and managed to fix it, see below: https://x3.xbimmers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1746990 Any ideas? |

Strange.
My Jan 2020 with iDrive 7 "lite" has had AA since software 21.3. https://www.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...php?p=29485515

Definitely a trip to the dealer for them to investigate.
Although the iDrive 7 "lite" version is missing features of the full blown version, software upgrades can enable some. Android Auto on mine was enabled this way, despite Connected Drive people telling me it was not possible! |

Thanks. Can I ask you what you told them that got them to do what's needed?
Connected drive chat also told me the car isn't compatible with Android Auto, but we know that isn't true. I just don't want to have the same argument with the dealership. |

I had Android Auto and Alexa in the 330e I traded in.
I asked them to enable in the X3 30e I was exchanging it for. They did that a week later by updating the software to 21.3. I am now on software 22.11 and all is still good. Did a dealer update yours to 22.11 ? I would tell them you have "lost" AA and can they investigate.

Someone updated my software over the weekend, not the dealer. Please see attached.
After the update, and activating AA somewhere, it doesn't show the icon, so he gave up and said he doesn't know what else to do to get it to show. |

My Imprint is exactly the same as yours.
My Map is a later version but still has software 22W40, again same as yours. Maybe give it a few days and do a refresh to see if it is a backserver issue.

As you can see, this is most definitely not true. I myself have a 2020 and it has idrive 7 "lite" and AA. I'd do an edit on ur post so people searching for this topic don't get the wrong info.

Yesterday I took my X3 Sport (build 11/19 with software version 07/19) that I recently purchased 2nd hand to the dealer (paid £180) to get the software updated to 03/23 I now have Android Auto...! This is after being told by 5 different people at Connected Drive that my car is a S15A build, so it cannot have AA - but there was 1 person that said it would appear after updating. Connected Drive do not have a clue! I actually have a complaint currently open with them about their inconsistent advice and now INCORRECT advice about S15 X3's. I can't wait to let them know that most of them got it WRONG! Do you have the Connected Drive package (now called Connected Booster Package) installed? I do... The reason I ask, is because this is what's listed on the BMW UK page - I'm not sure if you have to have the Connected Package for AA - but I also like controlling my car from the app Which BMW models have Android Auto™? * Vehicles with BMW Operating System 7 or 8. * Vehicles with the optional equipment Connected Package Professional (6C4). Only available in conjunction with BMW Live Cockpit Plus (6U2) or BMW Live Cockpit Professional (6U3). * Vehicles with BMW Operating System 7 that feature the required equipment option can receive Android Auto™ via remote software upgrades. |

Hi guys!
I had the same problem with Android Auto (I didn't have it). I bought a BMW X3 G01 built on August 2019 never updated before (software version D19w31.3-1). It didn't have AA at all. I updated it with the latest software (P18_23w44.2-1), but it didn't help. I almost gave up, but about one month after the updated I decided to make one last try. So I did all these things and one of them worked (maybe that was a combination of them I don't know): 1. Updated my FA with 1119 build date (it used to be 0719) 2. Made a full reset of the MGU using ISTA 3. Updated Online services couple of times using ISTA after the reset. And updated Apps using "Update App and Services" menu on the Apps screen 4. After the reset I had to pair my android device again. 5. There were several MGU restarts somewhere between these steps: I was trying all the different things and restarted MGU a couple of times. Android Auto didn't appeared instantly after all these steps. I even thought that It would never appear. But when I drove back home (about 15 minutes drive) and parked my car I suddenly saw a new AA menu on the Apps screen. Hope that helps. |

Android Auto added to 2020 X3
I have a 2020 X3 Bmw iDrive7 firmware was F19W51, it had Apple Carplay but didn't have Android Auto. I paid $180 to a guy on eBay who remoted into my laptop which was connected to the car and updated the software to G22
Good news it was awesome, bad news it only lasted 4 months. Why can't the dealerships do this, we will gladly pay? Last edited by beak81; 03-19-2024 at 02:19 PM.. Reason: adding a picture |
