AFAIK it’s a dealer visit.

Do you mean an over the air iDrive OS update ? If so, no, you need SP18 iDrive 7 for this.

That site is inaccurate, as discussed on this forum before. Pre LCI G01 cannot receive over the air iDrive OS updates. It can receive other updates but not iDrive operating system.

Using my VIN it states my software is up to date on that site when it isn’t. The My BMW app shows there is an OS update available for my car, which is SP18 iDrive 7 with OTA OS update capability.

From the My BMW Home Screen select “Check Status”, and then scroll down the screen to “Software”, where it shows “Remote Software Upgrade”. If you have the checked the RSU privacy setting in iDrive 7, the update will show.

The G01 does not support this feature unless SP18 iDrive 7.

If car is iDrive 7 and your G01 is model year is 2022 or higher (SP18), go to iDrive car settings>general>data privacy and ensure the “remote software update” box is checked if you want the updates. Just select “All Services” to check the boxes for everything.

My car is ID 7 model 12/2019 G01.
I already have enabled automated updates but it doesn’t have anything related with software .. that’s why I am stuck

Your car model year is not SP18, which was introduced at G01 LCI model year 2022. Pre LCI G01 with iDrive 7 have iDrive 7 “lite” SP15, which does not support remote software updates for the OS, hence why you don’t see the option.

You cannot software upgrade SP15 to SP18 as the hardware is different. Any OS update for your model requires a dealer visit.

So for whatever software update that comes out I will have to go and pay for the update right ? 🤯🤯

Usually, unless there’s an outstanding issue that requires the update to fix, then it maybe free.

My only concern is that I called the dealership and they told me that if there is an update for my car then I will be notified through the app…

But I highly doubt that that’s the case since there are already available updates and I wasn’t notified …

Unfortunately the dealers don’t know what they are talking about much of the time.

With SP18 iDrive 7, the car will notify you on the iDrive display if there is an OS update, this will also then appear in My BMW app. This only happens if the privacy permission box for Remote Software Updates is selected in iDrive setting, which you don’t have.

Ps there is also a menu option in SP18 to search for OS software updates.

That’s not possible.

SP18 and SP15 software requires different hardware, it’s not just a software update.

Ok so in other words either I will be stuck on same software and hardware..
or I will have to check if my hardware can be changed which I don’t think it’s possible

There may be updates for SP15 OS, but it will be specific to SP15 feature set. Hence, SP18 features are unlikely to be available, but there may still updates for your version.

The SP is the underlying architecture of the car systems, so changing hardware may not be possible due to BMW back end systems etc.
