BMW Intelligent Headlight Technology in Action
Good video showing how this awesome technology works.
Who else panicked and switched it off when the brights(Blue Icon) switch on and you thought you were blinding the person in front, guilty. |

With 4 headlights on, the driver will incur a lot of flashing from oncoming vehicles tunnel effect or not. An oncoming driver seeing 4 bulbs coming toward him will instinctively flash high beams.

I use it a lot and have never had anyone flash me for bright headlights. I'm not 100% sure but i think the four headlights are always on over here with the headlights lit and all four have full and dipped beam functions.

It works well. I’m not convinced it’s obvious all 4 are on as they are so close together. Quite a number of cars in Europe have this system...it’s much better than the early xenons which often resulted in flashing.

Personally if they are all on or off I don't care and so far I have not blinded anyone, I think they are brilliant

If I am not mistaken, the adaptive headlights as shown in that video doesn't exist like that in the US. I thought I recall the dramatic moving of the headlights like that was never implemented here but perhaps I'm wrong. It never existed on the X3 here. The headlights move with your turns and it auto levels, but it doesn't do all that googley eye thing to avoid shooting the headlamps at other vehicles. However, the auto high beams do exist and I really like it. It's pretty flawless - it knows when there is oncoming or traffic up ahead.
Also, same here - if you have the LED lights, all 4 light up during standard low beam. When I first got my 2018 X3 and it did this, I thought others would think I was high-beaming them but I don't think that anymore. I think it looks pretty cool with all 4 lit. Compare that to the many folks out there that actually drive with their high beams on which seems to be a good amount of people now! That or their headlights are seriously maladjusted. |

Yeah, the LED high beam assist in my previous F31 was good but the ICON adaptives in my G01 are amazing. Absolute witchcraft. Brilliant.
The only time i ever get flashed is when i'm coming over the crest of a hill, and that happens whether i have the adaptives on or not. I think the LED dipped beams are just very bright, and of course coming over a crest the angle of the dipped is in the other guy's face anyway.

Thanks for the video share btw. I have to say I think from a tech perspective the MB tech is the most impressive. No moving parts, solid state, etc. The mechanical pieces are likely to break in the BMWs. |

Strangely the front photo on the video above does not depict the 'Signature' headlight array that is the feature on the BMW G01 Adaptive LEDs...are they not the Angel Eyes Lights or I am missing something completely? (Which wouldn't surprise me...LOL) This link demonstrates the X3 G01 Adaptive LEDs with 'High Beam' assist and the 'Signature' LED array. https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q...tail&FORM=VIRE

How do you code this? I have Bimmercode, but didn't see an option. I know I have the adaptive and anti-dazzle (I saw it included as "decoded" on my build sheet). However I obviously want this "illegal" feature if I can get it |

Actually the video I linked to only demonstrates.... whereas your video I felt explained better with the assistance of the graphics. My only reason to link was to link the actual LED array that the current X3 G01 models use. I knew the 'Angel Eyes' shown in the first video were incorrect for the model. All that said the principal is the same...and well explained in both...

I find the system on my M40i brilliant (if you pardon the pun). I like how it seems to turn off the high beam only where it faces into oncoming traffic, but keeps it switched on on the kerb side. Plus of course the swivelling with the steering direction.
Seems to be the right sensitivity through the camera. The system on my earlier E90 was too sensitive to reflections off street signs so the high beam would be switched off way too often.

I'm guessing you need to do it manually in expert mode or something.

I have this on mine, adaptive LED with High Beam assist. It's really cool and worth a drive down a dark country lane just to see it in action.
I believe, in ambient light (around town where there's lots of streetlights etc) it switches off. |

I always use auto lights but rarely switch on the HBA. Its probably because I drive around well lit streets and main roads most of the time at night time. However, on the odd occasion when out and about, where there are no street lights then I turn on. I suppose it depends where you live.

I live in a rural setting and leave it on all the time....if I'm tailing someone or meeting someone it does everything required...approaching any village or town with street lighting it switches to low beam automatically too. I think what many find difficult is when they see the 'Blue' lamp on the dashboard still lit...habits of a lifetime leads the driver to believe something isn't working correctly when in fact it is. I notice if HBA is on in a well lit zone the 'Blue' does actually switch off leaving just the 'Green' lamp on....then as soon as you drive out of town the 'Blue' lamp indicator appears once again showing the driver the HBA is active...great system. I specified Adaptive LEDs at the time of purchasing G01 X3 2.0d XLine....expensive but if you're going to buy a nice vehicle buy what makes it nicer too...in addition I had to specify the Prof SatNav...delighted with both.
