X3MC Windscreen

Hi All

Just wondering if any of you guys have needed a new windscreen in your X3MC and how it went. I ask as mine has a scratch from a stonechat for under the blade on the passengers side.

I have not had good experiences with have screens replaced and don’t really want to have one changed on a 7 wk old car.

Cheers Steven

Had a replacement screen fitted after just 3 weeks. The stonechip was directly in my line of sight so deemed irreparable by Autoglass.

Insurance company (Axa) dug their heels in and insisted on using Non-OE glass. Thankfully the Autoglass technician took pity and requested BMW glass instead. He told me the glass should have cost well over £1000!

Decent job by Autoglass. No issues with water leaks, wind noise, blurry HUD etc.

It’s a good idea to go OEM. Having had a few replaced on other vehicles at Safelite, the cheap knockoffs they use were not great. I had to have one swapped because of a distortion in the glass when I looked from the driver to passenger side.

It’s hard to tell before it’s installed as they look clear.

They also busted up pretty much all of my cowl clips. I’ll be looking for other companies if the need arises.

Thanks for the reply and glad you got a good job done.

That’s my main concern is they use a non OE glass.

Will live with it for as long as I can, it’s in the passengers side so not in my line of site.

Thanks again.

One other note, my insurance company (Allstate) has the policy of using OEM glass if the car was less than X years old.

Check with yours if you haven’t.

Red face

Progressive and Safelite did me right 2 weeks ago! Small rock created a 4” spider crack. Progressive originally said they would only cover (100%) non-OEM glass and I’d be liable for the difference... as a long time Progressive customer, I asked for professional courtesy and explained BMW would only accept an OEM glass replacement (leased vehicle).... after 15 min back and forth between Progressive and Safelite they agreed to cover the entire cost of the OEM replacement and recalibration. Zero $ out of pocket, and the replacement job was flawless.

*this was on my M40i only 2 weeks before turning in to get the new X3MC. I was very fortunate.

As the car is in warranty you should find that you can push back and insist if they try to fit a generic screen, I've always done that and they have always accepted it. (UK)
