It was beyond $4000 below and was zero profit
Bmw must have something secret. They also assumed my M3 with 13 mos left as a wash.

This sounds like BMW has a program to push these out. Typical BMW invoice was 8.5% or so historically. Dealerships are not in business to take losses.

You are forgetting that BMW also has 5% of MSRP in "holdback" on each of these cars. Invoice is 7% off base vehicle price and 8% off all options. That works to around a 7.5% difference between MSRP and "invoice" for the car. Take that "invoice" price and subtract 5% of the original MSRP and now you have much closer to the true amount of what the dealership actually paid for the car.

This still doesn't take into account any additional trunk money or special programs (like if the dealership hits specific sales number for the month etc) that give the dealership even more money back.

So effectively, real invoice on a BMW is somewhere around 12.5% off MSRP. Now you know how some of us manage to consistently get 10-13% off MSRP deals BEFORE incentives, OLP codes, etc. Dealerships are not losing money when selling you the car at 12% off MSRP before incentives.

Plus, at least in the NY/NJ/CT area, dealerships then tack ridiculous "doc" fees ($500+ really???? this is almost pure profit) and such onto the sales to start making that profit right back. Hence why you always look at the total picture before deciding if a deal is good or not.

Good stuff here. "Doc fees" in Florida are usually like $700-$1,000 which is insane.

For reference, the Doc fee that I paid to my dealer in San Diego County was $80.

California has a law which limits the doc fee a dealer can charge at $80.00.
Of course, even though they could, none of them will go lower than the $80.00 max allowed.

On an X3M/X4M group on Facebook, folks in the UK are getting leases down to mid-500's to mid-600's on a lease. One guy posted 15k off from the dealer and another 5k from BMW.

I like the X3M but doesn't look like a buy car with all this money off. A sign that it will depreciate hard. Take your cheap lease and hand it back in.

as others have posted from the UK, MSRP is way more over there (100k?) so they discount it a lot more to make it more in line...

as others have posted from the UK, MSRP is way more over there (100k?) so they discount it a lot more to make it more in line...
Here's one of the posts. Says 80k euro. Also built one online. Comp starts at 77k Euro.

First of all it’s not Euro (€) it’s GBP (Ł).

and MSRP of Ł80,180 = $104,366, like I said.

The final discount price you linked is Ł59,300, which equals $77,188.

$77,188 is higher than our standard MSRP without any discounts or incentives... so do the math and look at the currency correctly.

Correct on pounds. Converting to US Dollars though in either case is meaningless. They are not buying the car in US dollars. They don't need to convert monies to buy the car. So although it's true that the pound has lost a lot of value compared to the US Dollar, those living there are not exposed to that impact on buying their cars.

That being said, I do understand though that their salaries could be lower there compared to the USA so I can't look at it through US Dollars. It maybe harder for someone there to buy the same 60k car. You'd have to get into their net income as I'm sure their benefits are better/cheaper but too complicated for this discussion.

My husband is British so we actually deal with pounds vs dollar with our money. But regardless, there were enough posts that said BMW marks up the car way more in the UK, but I cba to go find them for this dumb discussion.

Also, in the UK you have to buy a maintenance service pack for the health checks, oil change, etc, which is Ł800-1300... which is free in the US.

I don’t even get what the price of BMWs in the UK has anything to do with you in the first place or why you even brought it up. It’s a completely different market with different taxes, gas prices, and mentality when it comes to buying cars. I could site that in the Netherlands the same x3mc would be around €150,000+ ... but again, completely irrelevant to us as US consumers.

I didn’t skip over it because you were trying to say the car will depreciate hard in the US based on a “big discount” off an inflated UK MSRP. You say random crap which may misinform people looking to buy/lease when you don’t know what you are talking about.

Going shopping for a new ride for my wife. We're considering the one in the link. I bought my Individual M3 off this dealer a little over a year ago. Any insight on incentives or price to land on?

Purchase not leased. No sales tax, just looking at OTD price.

Promise - last post. As I showed you, you can build an 80k X3M comp there so please save the inflated talk for someone less educated. Getting 25% off is 25% off, period. I'm sorry you were hurt by the "big depreciation" comment or having to explain that converting to US dollars is non-sensical for someone living in the UK. Take care.
