Oil Warning? Already!

Drove to a shop today (10 min) drive and on the way home I got Check Oil Level warnings twice. Typically before you can check the oil level you need to have been driving for 30 mins, so I was unable to check.

Regardless, it's seems weird to have an oil level check only 500 miles after the RIS?

I got the same or similar warning (unable to determine oil level - drive moderately and check oil level) a few days ago approximately 500 miles after RIS. Once I was able to check the oil level it was fine. Curious if others will experience same issue at a similar interval.

Yep, experiencing exactly the same issue. Check oil and it's fine.

Booked it in for mid-February when I can get a loaner.

Turbocharged engines do generally use more oil, depends on the turbo design of course. I have had some tuned and non-tuned turbo engines previously and they need a top up every few thousand miles.

Not sure how this turbo dissipates heat but some do it through the oil, thus burning a little off all the time.

I keep a 1L of synth oil in my boot in any car

I got the same last week. Checked oil and all fine. Seems like a common issue then?

I also had it flash across the screen shortly after break-in while driving.

Level was fine, and it has not popped up since.

Sounds like another software bug.

I had this today, got 2000 miles on the clock, flashed up “low engine oil, drive carefully and check” etc. Pulled over 1 min later and did a check and all levels were fine. Didn’t do it again.

Mine was just after a 2/3/4th gear redline pull

Glad to know it's just a glitch!

Well the dealer called and said the car was ready. They said it just needed reset. My wife told them it happened a few weeks ago also. Their response was its just a glitch, they can show her how to reset. She then asked how will she know if the alarm is real or just needs "reset". They said bring it in and we will check it. Wifey not happy with answer.

Same issue here. Appeared a couple times after RIS. Just reset it in iDrive after a good 45 min drive.

Had it happen once while driving. Pulled over to a parking lot to let the car measure oil levels. Oil measurement was good. Nothing else since then.

Happened to me once a few weeks ago, but important to note it said "Oil level unknown" not low, unknown, didn't think too much of it.

Last week on a longer trip it kept popping up every 10 minutes and then would clear itself and come back. Brought it to the dealer and they said my oil was overfilled by 1.5L

Seems interesting that many others seem to have this issue.

Fixed mine yesterday. 2 hour drive in in the first 30 mins the alert came on at least 10 times. Thankfully I was able to stop after 30mins and do the oil level check and reset. All good since.

Since resetting mine has been message free. Clearly a post RIS glitch.

happened to me about 400 miles after 1200 mile service.
checked oil level when home and engine warm, was full up.

seems like a few issues with the new vehicle/engine.
i had drivetrain malfunction warning as well a couple of times.
in at dealer now for waste gate adjustment.

I've had the same issues. They had to reprogram the software twice. They replaced the turbos for no reason, the same malfunction kept coming back up! Then also the oil warning - turns out their records say to use 7liters and it should be 6. When they used only 6, it was fine. Otherwise was reading as too much oil. Aye! My car was in service for about 3 weeks.

My X5M always drank a quart or two between oil changes. The service department would give me two quarts before I left and told me that if it needed a quart put two in it and it should last until the next oil change.
