Which is weird because Motortrend got way worse times 3.5 and higher. Best I ran in my Trackhawk is 3.2 with the all season tires, so it sounds like all these SUVs can run somewhere in the range of 3.2 - 3.8

Personally holding out for a X3M GTS with deleted rear seats, roll cage, huge water injection tank in trunk and Sport Cup 2 tires

Yep! X3M could be the perfect car where I live (Swiss Alps). There is already a lot of Macan and other sporty SUVs in my area. This time I will test drive G80 Competition and X3 (Competition if possible) before deciding.
You'll be waiting an other 3 years for the G80 Competition.
Maybe it will be as quick as the M5C... less than 1 year

Actually, many people just don't. They buy SUVs because they think they look "cool" and like the higher seating position. Even the rear seat in the X3 has less width than the 3 series, making it less practical for carrying passengers
Sure but you can't say the F80 and X3M have the same utility. That's just false.

same customer base, just people are buying different cars now, I will be getting a X3M or X4M and trading in my M3, makes sense in my position.

its not like they are selling $30,000 M cars now...
Considering the cheapest full on M car is $59k... and X3M likely will be within 10k of a similarly equipped F82 M4 I expect a lot of people to come to the same conclusion.

Can't imagine why anyone in their right mind would buy one of these rather than an M3 or M4?! An M version of an SUV is a contradiction in terms as far as I'm concerned. And no, I'm not a troll. I'm been driving BMW's on and off for twenty five years, and love 'em . It's a shame that BMW has to sully the M brand by making these models

I used to think that...until we asked the instructors at M school which was their favorite...they said X5/6M with the 5 taking it because it was more versatile. Despite the mass, the SUVs are getting pretty damn good.

Not everyone has the luxury of living in a warm climate where you get your money's worth out of a RWD M car. Having an M with xDrive that you can drive all year round makes every drive a blast. If I lived in a warmer climate where I didn't need to worry about snow I would gravitate towards a RWD car / non-SAV version. The biggest kick I get though is putting most cars in my rear view with my 6000 pound X5M.

You’re thinking about it backwards. I think people who like or can use a sedan or coupe would already be happy with an M3/M4 (like me, my M3 is absolutely perfect for my needs) but the X3M/X4M lets people who want or need an SUV have as much fun as possible. My fiancee loves my M3 but wants to be able to fit her big dog, bicycle, etc inside and just likes a taller driving position. A wagon or mid size SUV is perfect for her so if we could comfortably afford it we would instantly get her an X3M.

I doubt anybody who doesn’t get these M SUVs has actually driven one hard. The comment about the X5M being a favorite at the Performance Driving Center is no joke, every single person there the last timeI went fell in love with the X5M’s performance and handling around the Thermal course. It’s on a completely different planet compared to a non-M X5 just like there is absolutely no comparison between the handling of a 3 series and an M3 when you push to the limits.

Thanks for posting and the x3m looks the goods!

In Aus we don't get the x5 50i until mid next year, going to wait for that unless this comes first...

From FJ Cruiser to x4m would be an interesting transition

I would because we already own an F80 M3 but want something with SUV capabilities to put the kids in as an every day car that also moves when you need it to

Yea but who's really gonna push the limits of a SUV nay perdon SAV. I barely push limits of my M3 sadly. Half my tachometer and speedometer barely get any use. X3M really just for people who don't see any price difference between a M40i and X3M.

With a Stage II tune it's possible. The G80 customer base will appreciate that the S58 will be to market 1st with the X3M that the tuners have already performed due diligence with this engine. Anything is possible

I push the limits of my X5M and rev the F out of it, that's why it's averaging 14 miles per gallon. Good thing that Costco just opened up 6.9 miles from my house for cheap ass SC premium fuel (that's without traffic lights). No shit in the rear cargo that will fly around, or it's strapped down. Same for my M4 vert that has a Stage II tune during ED. Otherwise what's the point of a M engine?

Both cars are driven triple digits, M4 has hit 165mph and X5M 150 mph. M4 had the top speed deleted during the tune (driven directly from the Welt with less than 50 miles), but haven't found a decent road yet to push 180 mph.
