X3/X4 to X5/X6 brake upgrade adapter kit

BIMMERPOST / Classifieds
Asking Price:
USD 110.00

Item Interest
With this kit, you can run any E70, E71, E72, F15, F16, F85, F86 X5 or X6 front brake setup that you want on the front of your 2011 to 2016 BMW F25 X3 or 2015-2016 BMW F26 X4.

Spacers are 304 stainless steel. Hardware includes grade 10.9 OEM equivalent bolts and Nord-Lock safety washers, both zinc geomet coated.

Note that the debris/heat shield will require minor trimming to clear some larger brake setups. Here's my write up for the install: X5 brake upgrade for X3 or X4

Pics below show X5 50i brakes on my X3. PM me if interested. Or, just buy them on ebay: BMW F25 X3 F26 X4 brake upgrade adapter kit for X5, X6 brakes

Quick question, how much more brake fluid will be needed if say we upgrade fronts to F15 5.0i brakes?

Thanks

Three liters, or 3 cc, depending on how you look at it.

Stock X3 calipers are one 56mm piston = 24.63 cm2 in area.

The 50i calipers are dual 42mm pistons, 13.85 cm2 each, for 27.7 cm2, total area. That's 3 cm2 difference, or about a 12% increase. That 3 cm2 is about 3cc, maybe. Make it 6cc for both sides.

But, you should flush with new fluid and ISTA bleed, so more like three liters if you're installing new calipers and flushing. Maybe less, if you're just doing the front, but you should bleed/flush all four.

The other benefits of the 50i, or better yet, X5M calipers, is the increased pad and rotor area, rotor torque, as well as greater thermal mass in the rotors.

If you replace the f25 stock front rotor with f15 rotor, any issue with the rotor's center bore size? Is it the same?

Rotor center bore is identical. Brake hoses and pad sensor are compatible. Only the heat shield needs a little trimming.

I'd like to see a few of these out there with different brake setups. If you're interested in running one of the combinations below, PM me once you gather your hardware and I'll give you a nice discount, if you're willing to provide some good pics of your install.

50i brakes behind 18" wheels
E70 X5M brakes behind 20" wheels
F85 X5M brakes behind 20" wheels

Kits are up on ebay for easy purchase: BMW F25 X3 F26 X4 brake upgrade adapter kit for X5, X6 brakes

I'm curious if anyone would be interested in reconditioned 50i or X5M front calipers at reasonable prices. Ballpark guestimates for pricing, before shipping would be around $350/pair for 50i and around $975/pair for X5M four-piston. I may be able to get hooked up pricing on new X5M six-piston calipers, too.

I would be... But it'd be great if that includes all the necessary parts as a kit so I can just source some rotors.

What brake setup are you interested in, the 50i? I'd probably only want to sell calipers, since pad choices are such a matter of personal preference.

50i's brakes on the fronts should be plenty. It's a 2017 but I don't think that will make any difference... F25 is F25.

Makes sense, I'll be swapping pads around to find a good fit anyways.

Will 50i brakes behind 18" wheels work for my F25? Or do I still have to upgrade my wheels to 19"?

I can't say for sure. I've never tried or seen them fit behind 18" wheels with these adapters. You're welcome to try and relay the what you find to the rest of us.

Still available?

Also will these be suitable for F15 M50d / 50i calipers?

385x36 disc size?

Reason I ask is that those pics don’t look like the usual 50d / 50i calipers?

I do still have some left. They will work for any E70 or F15 front brakes on the front of the F25 and F26.

Hi everyone, I want to upgrade my F25 front brakes and as I read, the easiest solution is using F15 calipers with some spacers. Can anyone provide me the dimensions for these spacers? A friend of mine has a lathe and could build me these spacers. Thanks in advance!
