Piggy Back and DP's?

As most of the forum members know by now ( I didn’t; until last month) the 21/22 S58 cars DME’s are locked and have to be sent to some of our friends in Finland for some bench top magic. Hey FEMTO,,,how much is that service for future reference?

Back to my point, before I was clued into the locked DME I transferred my BM3 to my 22 X3MC and picked up a nice set of used DP’s.

If I decide to go Piggyback is it advisable to install the DP’s? I assume I will get the CEL’s with the DP’s do Piggybacks assist with muting the CEL’s.

I am guessing my BM3 tunes and DP’s will just gather dust for a long time until I go down the unlock route.

From what I am reading a piggyback and the Unlock will most likely cause a Warranty denial if I break something....pay to play...

If you blow the engine with a piggyback, yes, you’ll be on your own. Glad you adopted the pay-to-play mindset. Lots of BAD information related to piggyback tunes…

Look into Burger Tuning JB4. They’ve been tuning BMWs forever and JB4 has different maps for different mods including DP. Clears codes too

Talk to the guys at OrlandoAUTOwerks , they have their own 22 X3MC as well.
Femto unlocked, running BM3 and different custom maps from E40 to Full E85 with power gains.

Piggybacks won't clear the CEL from DP's unless you add mini-spacers.
The way piggybacks perform is not worth the price for me because it just adds boost (heat) and any car will likely experience engine issues faster than with a BM3 flash.

Piggybacks also do not adjust Air Fuel Ratio to run richer (cooler) when adding more power, BM3 flash does. So once again putting a piggyback on a real M car is not smart in any way.

My 2 cents from having experience with both over the years. I rather drive my car stock than putting a lean mean piggyback.

I won't recommend OrlandoAutowerks.
He claimed on my IG that he unlock ECU in house, but after I confront them, the said no.
Wtf, why giving out wrong information and claim otherwise when asked.

Appreciate all the input.

It would be nice to have a price point to compare the Unlock too.

I can't lie I spent a decent chunk of cash to get my F80 to over 500 WHP and is was a wild ride. Never did the CH so I always thought I was sitting on a time bomb.

Having 500WHP on tap in all wheel drive has been a blast, just want more. I see the 2019/2020 X3Ms with simple mods making 600+

I have downpipes and Racechip tune. I'm ultimately waiting on BM3 unlock (hopefully before 2023…) to get a custom 93 tune. I'm not a fan of E85 mixes.

I just got a dragy and I'm gonna try to get some nice 60-130 runs with the tune on and off. I can't get my launch control to work, plus can't think of a safe place to try it, so no 1/4 or 0-60.

So the dragy wasn't working out for me with data loss and no signals, so I just returned it. I did go to the track and Racechip is no joke.

Map 7 and MAD catless downpipes.

Attached my best time below. I was shocked.

Piggy backs like the jb4 have been proven to be pretty safe, I’ve had one on my cars since probably 2010 and they have gotten more sophisticated with built in safeties and code reading. It’s probably the best route for 21+ cars until they figure out how to flash them.

The mini cat defoulers don’t really work…
