22’ LCI Journal

Took delivery my ordered LCI in October. Have about 1500 miles on it since then, it’s a great little truck. Having had tons of M vehicles in the past was a little skeptical on a middle of the road as opposed to the M Comp but have been very happy with it this far. Was purchased for my wife to be a DD but since she’s working from home still it doesn’t see the road often.

Took delivery with stickers on the car, drove it the 3 miles home and had my friend who is in the PPF business do the entire front end and I followed with a IGL Kenzo ceramic coating.

Looks great! What does the front look like with the grilles back on with the red behind them?

Very nice mods. I’m so so tempted to do the carbon steering wheel trim but annoyed that I’d have to cut into the rear of the wheels trim to get access to the airbag clips. Why did BMW cover the access?

Can you post a link to the wheel trim please as I have the exact same wheel as you. I was thinking if I do this I’d also fit the red M buttons at the same time.

Does anyone know if they would be plug and play?

Would the red M buttons still retain full functionality, any changes to the wiring loom?

Cut into what? You don’t have to do any of that….the DIY is readily available online and it is literally plug and play. No different from any other BMW steering wheel that you might be switching paddles or trims on.

BMW did a great job with all the glossy black plastic but didn’t address the rear windshield wiper arm. Bought the expensive piece from IND but it’s a night and day difference. Now everything matches and flows.

To fit the carbon trim it was my understanding that the airbag has to be removed and in order the gain access to the retaining springs you have to make holes in each side of the steering wheel at the rear to be able to get to the spring to release the air bag?

In my last car there were holes already at the rear of the wheel to give access to the springs.

Took longer to disconnect the battery then to push a screwdriver in to release the airbag. Holes already exist, nothing has to be cut. It’s very straightforward

If the holes already exist in your outer surface then your airbag has already been off. No holes in mine, just dimples where you’d need to make the holes. 100% no holes in mine.

4 minutes 30 secs into this video is what I’m talking about.

You have to puncture it, holes are already there, a small toothpick will do. It takes longer to disconnect the battery as I noted. Really no big deal at all. Don't get held up on that.

Yes this is what I meant, I’m not sure I want to puncture the outer covering. I realise the holes are already there underneath to give access to the springs. It is the puncturing of the surface I didn’t really want to do.

Is it visible once you have punctured it?

Basically no, imo.
But someone could say yes, so I would just check it with my own eyes

Painted front reflectors, what a PITA. Have to take the wheels off to have ample space, you’ll destroy the pop rivets requiring new ones and you’ll need that pop rivet tool if you don’t have it already

But yea, it looks fantastic
