BWM Cargo Mat Fail
I paid $187 for my BMW X3 Cargo Mat. I am guessing many of you did as well. My issue is that the outer ridge is an unsupported fold.. that when a moderately heavy weight us put on it, it revers folds and the whole mat eventually reverse mushrooms. It looks horrible. I took it out and used weights to re-press into correct form.. only to have it repeat weeks later.
See photos of original as marketed, vs mine now. I have been looking for just simple carpet liner that looks decent and protects interior.. I regularly haul stuff. I want to avoid any type of raised edges. I prefer a cloth solution to rubber / plastic for noise reasons. I see a product from Llyods. Anyone have any good suggestions? A product they are happy with? Photos?

I just picked up an OMAC Pro-line liner from ebay for around 90. It was taking a gamble but it turned out to be a great purchase. I can take pics it a bit later but the fit is great and it has cutouts that help isolate smaller items and at least to my nose, the product has a bit of a grape smell to it instead of normal new rubber smell.

I had the OEM mat originally, and it was awful. I opted for the WeatherTech mat and it has been great for 2 years, had one for my F15 as well. If they are available for you, I would highly recommend.

I was very skeptical of the BMW OEM cargo mat cover as well based on reviews I read after I got my 2020 X3.
I went out and bought the 3D Maxpider cargo liner and it's been amazing. You can get them on Amazon as well as other places. Perfect fit and very durable. I also bought the matching floor mats and they are great as well. Highly recommended. https://www.amazon.com/3D-MAXpider-M...4053972&sr=8-2 |

However, if you do haul a lot of bulky, dirty (landscape type) items, would highly recommend always using a heavy duty tarp on top regardless of the quality mat. Makes it extremely easy to keep the back end clean, and the added thickness seems to also keep mats in good shape regardless of the load type (as in the heavy, sharp-edged boulders I've carried). Here are a few pictures of the old OEMs (which are now in the attic but look new) and the WeatherTech in action with a tarp. |

Is there Velcro on the back of the weathertech cargo liner? I'm looking for one without Velcro attachments.

Canvasback, then you can protect all sides. I've since added both left and right sides since this photo was taken.

Just my 2 cents. I went with trunk cargo mat from Amazon, fitment is good. Only exception is that it doesn't cover the driver side pocket due to net, luckily no need to cut the mat to fit. But the mat covers the slider hooks. So if you use that, you'll need to cut a slit down both sides of the mat.

Just be careful gents with the heavy mats. I know you would normally remove before lifting the floor boot cover, but if you don't and your mats have got a large lip at the back it may push the floor cover outwards at the bottom hinge and stress the gas strut.
Just this week I lifted the boot floor and I had an umbrella in the boot and right up to the rear of the seats. When I lifted the floor cover the umbrella got caught and forced the gas strut top fixing away from its seating underneath. I had to gorilla glue it back in place, trim off the excess when expanded and cured and luckily you would never know. It's a proper strong fix so now all is well. I use a non slip thin rubber matting to stop items sliding about, but I don't carry anything too dirty, too often. if I do, I lay a thick sheet in the boot to protect the floor. |

The OEM cargo mat is rubbish.
The OEM rear seat mats are good. The OEM front seat mat, driver's side, slides forward, rubbish. I need to put more velcro on the back of it, the provided discs are insufficient. The OEM front seat mat, passenger's side, is OK. |
