Just did it 15 mins all in. I screwed up ordering 10 inch should have gone 15 on the wiretap kit as Uniden R3 RJ-11 is on left side not right like V1. I had to place radar to right of mirror for it to work at that length. Still can see it but I mainly go by signal and will look a bit right to see the segments.

Completely out of the way of the airbag and won't make any rattle noises.
miula- Excellent post! I just did this today using your instructions. Unfortunately I have constant false laser warnings - I'll post another thread about that.

2kaccordocoupe - As far as the pillar, I took off the trim piece as you indicated.

Here are some pics:

Remove the plastic Air Bag placard:

Remove Torx screw

Gently pull the trim piece toward you/release the plastic clips (3 I think) and zip tie to the black wire bundle:

Thanks so much for the detailed post Super helpful with pictures. I tried doing a mirror tap but it didn't work out. Will try this instead.

Although this has been working great, is there no option for a fuse that turns off right away with the ignition and only turns on when the ignition is on?

It really bothers me that the radar powers on anytime I unlock the car and takes ~8 min to turn off.

Over weekend I did 15" mirrortap for Uniden R3, mounted to upper left of mirror. Pretty darned easy overall but it did take a little fiddling to get the right tap size to stay put. There are two plastic covers to remove, mirror easily pulls off, wires get tapped, and then it goes back together. I could probably do it again in like 15 minutes now that I know how it works.

Radar/laser

Has anyone purchased a Radar Mirror? https://www.radar-mirror.com/

Has anyone installed laser diffusers? If so, what brand and any install pics would be great.

I have not installed Radar-Mirror (although I always wanted to), but I used their repair service for my busted E46 M3 mirror (the fluid was no longer contained) and they made it brand new and turned it around very quickly.

Luckily my mirror did not leak into the interior as it is very corrosive.

Thanks for the write up Miula. I tried this on my 2021 M4 today but there's no fuse diagram in the manual and I couldn't find it online (maybe because the car is too new?). I'm afraid to try and open up the mirror housing for a mirror tap and I've done fuse taps on my cars before easily. Any thoughts on knowing which fuse it could be? Thanks

I know I'm digging up an old post but I'd love to learn more about your hidden install.

My detector has paid for itself many times over. Most cops use K band in the South Eastern US. Laser is still not seen here much. I have yet to be pulled over in about 25 years using one, so I don't know how a cop will react. I doubt most would notice or care.

I usually tap into the mirror when installing these, but with this car is was much easier to tuck the wiring along the windshield and pillar. Didn't even have to remove the pillar. 20 minute job taking my time.

I trick I use when tucking wires is to cut some soft foam (like the type used on water pipes to keep them from freezing) into small pieces then stuff it in behind the wiring to keep it from coming out. You can't see it and it's not going anywhere. It's also easy to remove with tweezers if or when needed.

Is fuse #46 able to take the load of a Radar and a Dash cam?

*Update*

Just did this with mine. The kit came with a 15amp fuse. Will have to replace that once the 5amp fuses come in.

I think I referenced this thread when I installed my uniden. I remember initially looking at the wires and then between the thread and my own testing got it figured out rather quickly.
