Got an X3 underway from Rosslyn plant? Here's a way of tracking its whereabouts

So, since I am kinda obsessed with knowing where my car is in the world, I did some heavy researching and have found some very useful info about X3s / BMWs in general from the Rosslyn plant in SA.

My dealership and sales associate are as lazy as could be and don't ever reach out to me to update; If you've got an attentive SA you might not need this trick.

Anyways, here's how to figure out where your X3 is if it's underway from SA.

go to this address: http://41.160.4.58:8080/

It will bring you to the portal of the shipping terminal BMW uses for SA built cars. Navigate to "Customer enquiries" and in the drop down menu select "Durban RoRo" (From what I know all cars from Rosslyn are there but if yours does not appear it might be worth it just to check the other ones)

Then of course, select "Cars" and in the text box type the last 7 digits of your VIN (which you should have gotten from BMW prior to production via email, ND39783 in my case for example) and click Search! I was expecting nothing but I was extremely happy when I saw that 16th of December my car left the port of SA on vessel G POSEIDON. Google that ship and MarineTracker knows exactly where it is. unfortunately my ship is floating in front of the coast of SA still so I have to exercise my patience...

Hopefully this is useful to someone!

Very nice! Great finding! You are certainly much luckier then I was researching this few months ago. Maybe you should add to your post the url for marine traffic too.

Thanks for this Matt1002 , it's still working 3 1/2 years later. I just found my X3, which has travelled up the west coast of Africa and is now at anchor on the Precious Ace off the southern coast of England. Several more hops along the journey before it gets here to Seattle lol...

I'm on the Precious Ace too. Eventual delivery to North Florida. I thought it was headed to Bremerhaven next, but I guess not. Mine shows up on the recall list as needing "retrofitting the receiver audio".

Any guesses on the future itenerary?

Not sure about the future itinerary. I was wondering if mine would go through the Panama Canal, or get dropped off on the US east coast for a train ride.

Seeing the same "retrofitting the receiver audio module" on mine. Sigh.

lol, yes but with decent mpg at least.

What's the best way to determine when your car leaves Bremerhaven, and which ship it's on? I've gathered that you can call BMW Genius, though not everybody seems to find that helpful. Is there any way to check online?

Btw, here's a handy list of ships leaving Bremerhaven for the US west coast for the next few months.

So is there a way to track what the next ship it goes on out of Bremerhaven? The Precious Ace has been docked a couple days now.

Only way I've heard of so far is to call BMW Genius.

The way I figured it out was to look at the other car carriers in the port at the same time and see which was headed to the port in my area. https://x3.xbimmers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1866811

Mine just updated to "At the Port" today. I'm also no longer seeing on the recall list, so guessing they were able to address the chip issue at the port.

Another one in the waiting club. Mine was dispatched on the Precious Ace too and since the past few weeks, BMW tracking shows "At the port". Called Genius several times and they have no clue. CA doesn't have any new info either. Anyone here had any luck with how to get the latest shipping/status updates from Bremerhaven to the US?

Ya mine still sitting at port too... I was wrong on the recall being fixed, its still listed as open. Got confused when the BMW API went down.... Seems some of the port backlog is actually getting worse both in Europe and US East Coast... so who knows when we get it.

Almost tempted to put in an order for a 2023 at another dealer and see if that comes first lol. I'm not sure what options cause a South Africa production....

That's really unfortunate. I was also informed back in May that there was a RAM module retrofit which apparently happens at Bremerhaven. Can I ask how were you able to check the status of that fix? Is there a link you could share?

The link is here https://bmw-recall-tool.netlify.app . It is back to just giving errors again....

On a positive note, mine just updated to in transit! Really been hoping for a Aug 31st delivery to north Florida as that is when the BMW financing I applied for expires....

I also noticed it updated to 'In Transit'! That's encouraging. My lease terms are also locked in till the end of Aug 31st. I opted for the PCD delivery and BMW Genius today mentioned that my car is scheduled to arrive at Charleston port on the 19th. Plus a week or two at the vehicle processing center. This waiting has been a real PITA.

Were they able to provide the name of the ship? I'm betting we are on the same one. Then can use https://www.marinetraffic.com to track the progress.

Yes, they did. It's on the Donington. Right now looks like it's at Zeebrugge in Belgium and then it'll make its way to Charleston. I won't be surprised if yours is on the same ship. Are you doing a PCD delivery or at the dealership?

Thanks! At the dealership in Tallahassee. I didn't realize PCD was an option.

My dealer also told me 4-6 weeks, 4 months ago.......

Quick Update - My dealer confirmed that the Donington is scheduled to get to the East Coast by the 20th of this month. On the advice of my CA, I also decided to cancel my PCD delivery and instead take delivery at the dealership in Philly as PCD is backlogged for at least 2 months. That means we should be able to take delivery by the end of August. Fingers crossed. We've already planned a long road trip adventure back to Austin

Just learned that my X3 is on the Cygnus Leader, which left Emden, Germany today and should arrive at Port Hueneme, CA on Labor Day. Guess we're going through the Panama Canal.

Anyone else here on that boat?
