For me, having owned two Toyota Echos and two Prii in my past, having the HUD in my MINI and now in my X3 is a no-brainer.

It's better to be looking forward to get key information such as navigation, being able to select radio stations and channels rather than looking down at the speedometer or over to the head unit.

Heated front seats, Heated Steering wheel since I live in an area which is not that cold. I believe I can get Advanced RTI if I select Driving Assistance Option. I am not sure what is Remote Services and probably I dont need it.

If I had to go with Premium Tier package, I would need to shell out additional $1600 and I am wondering if it is that justifiable feature?
This is the first car that I've had with HUD. Going forward I can't imagine ever considering a car without it. Absolutely love this feature! I don't find it distracting at all - it's nice to be able scroll thru call lists, radio stations, current speed/speed limit and of course nav info without having to take your eyes off the road.

All of my cars have HUD, at autobahn speeds, the less you look away from the road the better. Someone mentioned above about checking mirrors, that's not the same as looking down and focusing on numbers, plus with all the active safety, the car tells you if someone is in your blind spot.

I won't have another car without that feature.

How did people survive on roads just few years ago without a HUD is beyond me.

/sarcasm

I get it. It's convenient. But not essential.
Just my 2 cents canadian.

Some didn’t survive and might have done if they had been looking at the road. I am on my 3rd M3 with HUD and have spec’d it on the X3 I have on order. I find it very useful.

I forget I have the feature if I start underway wearing my very cool and comfortable Nike sun glasses, can anyone recommend a good premium pair that does allow me to see the HUD? I can keep them in that nice little storage compartment.

For years I wore Corning Serengeti sunglasses. The same amber tint that I have on my ski goggles - really helps to deal with flat light - they enhance contrast - of course that is more important when trying to read moguls than driving on asphalt!

You can often get the same pair with or without polarisation, I know that's true in the Raybans I have - I've got one of each as I've had HUDs on my cars for some time now.

So if you love those Nikes, just check if you can buy a pair non-polarised. In my experience they will also be cheaper.

Another option is to adjust the rotation of the HUD. It will help with some polarized glasses. With my wife's glasses, it's just a small tilt and it is very clear. Mine unfortunately, it doesn't do any good.

Is there any way to set a "tolerance level" with respect to speed limits and showing actual speed in red color? (i.e. so that actual speed is only showed in red if above e.g. 10%/5mph of the speed limit)

I have the HUD in my 340i but have deliberately NOT ordered it for my new X3.

Firstly because i use polarizing sunglasses, and as i find it hard enough to find sunglasses i like and i've had these two pairs of Maui Jim's for more than a decade i am quite fond of them. Sadly the HUD in my 340 (and in the new X3) simply doesn't work with my sunglasses unless i tilt my head to 45º one way or the other - which kinda defeats the object of the HUD!

Secondly because whilst the information there is useful, with the new digital cockpit and the fact that you can scroll through radio stations and see navigation information in huge detail in the rev counter the HUD is much less useful to me. I know the new HUD shows more information, but frankly i don't really want more information up there - just the speed.

And i can use the limit function to keep my speed down so i don't have to concentrate so much on the speed and i can keep my eyes on the road.

I didn't want the HUD. I believed it would distract and I'd turn it off all the time.

The HUD came with the Tech pack and so I ordered a car with the HUD... now I have begun to depend on it. Even tried turning it off but find looking down at the digital instrument cluster takes my eyes off the road so much more than I ever realised before I had an HUD...

If it's an option you can afford, it's well worth the spend, in my opinion.

I’d love to use the HUD, but my Maui Jim polarized sunglasses block it. :/

Anyone know whether this is possible? I know that e.g. VolvoXC60/90 has this feature and I would be a bit surprised if the same is not the case for the X3.
