I agree - as exciting as it is when Steve/Apple release new products, it's always better to wait. That's why I bought my new 17" G4 powerbook in November. I needed a new one & I didn't want to be tempted by new technology. I'd rather have the Intel based one when ALL of the apps for it (notably Adobe products) run natively on Intel-OSX.

hey, you 2 should get some comission from Steve for advertising his company. I get all the apple news from you both. this e90 site rocks. BTW, all my computers are company lease computers, I have a dual G5 and a HP laptop. The dual G5 is too powerful for my current work but who is complaining, it is a lease machine and I did not have to pay for it.

Mac users, do not go out to the apple store on-line because you will not be able to resist the urge to pull out your credit card and order the new power book. damn, it is hot and powerful, the duo chip is sweet. This is almost as exciting as seeing the e90 in person the first time.

this is exactly how i feel right now

anyways, the apple website is really busy right now, can't get through many things and videos take forever to load. i'd like to see how many hits they're getting right now. it must be some insane number.

there is no mention of battery life anywhere on the site, it probably sucks compared to the old powerbook or they would mention it on every single page otherwise.

i can't wait to see it in person and play with it to feel the performance gain...

if you go to the new powerbook pro site, somewhere on that site, there is a link called technical specification, in the technical specification page, at the bottom there is a link called Battery life, it will tell you about the battery. I think it uses the same type of battery as before called lithium-ion. I think eleven24 is browsing the mac store as we speak...

nope, i went through the whole site and the only thing mentioning the battery life was that it depends how you use the laptop.

i'm also a bit disappointed that they got rid of the PCMCIA slot. i'm not even sure what that express slot is for but they better figure out a better way of transferring the content of my CF and SD cards other than a USB cable and/or a dongle.

also, where the Firewire 800 port? not that i ever used it, but still, i want it there!

Go to this link my friend

http://www.apple.com/macbookpro/whatsinside.html

So I was wrong, it uses a lithium-polymer battery.

Battery and power
60-watt-hour lithium-polymer battery (with integrated charge indicator LEDs) (1)
85W Power Adapter with MagSafe Connector and cable management system
Power adapter port

that is exactly where i was and call me stupid, i don't see a mention about battery LIFE. i know the specs on it, i just wanna know how long it lasts when normally used.

if you go to powerbook's site, you'll see what i mean about them posting battery life all over the place. on the macbook pro, there is absolutely no mention of it. not even "good battery life" nada.

vladinecko, On the link I sent out earlier, on that page, scroll down toward the bottom and you will see in small white text "Battery life". click on it and it should give you a chart for comparision. Hope that is what you are looking for. See attached photo...

Actually, that chart is for a lithium-ion and not a lithium-polymer battery. But all lithium battery (ion or polymer) should yield almost the same result.

nah, i already checked that out when i was on that page. it only leads to a general page about lithium-ion batteries, what they are and how they charge. there is no mention of the new macbook at all, it only talks about powerbooks, ibooks and ipods. even links from that page only lead to information about those products.

I really think this new Imac is going to be my first Macintosh.

But I'm still keeping a PC around...Just in case.

Well, hopefully you have already done this. But if you have not, really ask yourself what it is that you do on your pc? Just to surf the web, do some quickens budget, you need it for school project. The answers to those questions should help you decide if the MAC is the right fit for your needs.

MSNBC had an article today where they interviewed an Apple Executive (can't remember which one) and he said that while Apple will not provide technical support for it, the new Intel based Macs will be able to have Windows installed on them.

So this not only means the "switchers" can enjoy the uber-goodness of OSX, they can revert back to the dark side should they need to run a Windoze app.

I have just finished watching the cast of Jobs' MW Speech, and I am astounded! That new MacBook Pro is H-O-T-sssssst! HOT! My Aluminium PowerBook G4 is looking pretty lame now... I can't wait until February when they ship... but I am wondering if waiting until June will be better once they start to flesh the range out a bit nore.

Until then I will be very twitchy, kind of like when I was waiting for my E90 to arrive.

Also I ache for the new iLife etc etc. They never stand still do they?!

It will be VERY interesting to see what MS does with Virtual PC.

The kicker is until they go Universal Binaries, Virtual PC will be emulating an X86 processor on Rosetta which is emulating a PowerPC on an Intel

Though you can dual boot and load Windows, I want it all running on the same screen at the same time and working smoothly together. Not much to ask from Apple is it?

i know! whenever they announce something, i usually like so much i want it that day but it's not available. i also have the AL 15" G4, the newest generation and even though the macbook pro has the same casing, the insides are WAY more attractive than G4s.

i liked how he said, iPhoto '05 can hande 25,000 photos, iPhoto '06 now handles 250,000 photos also, the new garageband allowing you to create podcasts is awesome too!

They seem to be relentlessly improving how easy it is to have a digital life. I love the way they have deeply integrated podcasting et al into these apps and web publishing into iPhoto etc and created iWeb.

It is really making XP look VERY old and tired, and what I see of Vista it is just a fresh coat of paint, all the good features were ripped out because they want to get to market quicker. Vista will be a good step forward, but Apple are already putting even more daylight between the two operating systems.

But Microsoft have nothing like iLife. It is like when Apple stole the march on desktop publishing in the late 80s and MS floundered to catch up.

Apple = BMW
Windows = Lexus

MS' problem is deeper than that - they haven't been using X-Code, they are still using CodeWarrior - or whatever the Motorola tool was called. So they have to completely rewrite Office, Messenger etc in X-Code to go Universal.

I think it is one of the reasons they gave IE the chop on the Mac platform.

I hope the rewrite means they will write code that works at a decent speed, and give us Messenger which uses webcams... it isn't like it is hard for pete's sake. To me they are just holding back features.
