Part of it is the fact that they have to pull the vehicle off the normal production line, paint it in a non-standard color, then slot it back into the production line. It's a hiccup in the normal cycle of production which will come at a cost to the consumer of course. It is on the cost prohibitive side of things but it's kind of one of those "you gotta pay to play" kind of things.
Not required for the X SAV production line in Spartanburg. Serial paints, SABI (serial Individual Priority 1 paints - TB2, Dravit, Ametrin, etc) and 490 Manufaktur Individual paints are on the same line.

If G01/02 ever receive auto lane change option in the future, optioning 490 Individual paint options will add option 8TR "decoding additional functions"

"Please note that with U490 BMW Individual paint the function "Lane change assistant", which is a part of option 5AU "Driving assistant professional" has to be deactivated. This happens by adding option 8TR "decoding additional function".

Here's my coverage on 8TR in the X5/X6M forums regard 8TR when optioning U490

https://www.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...php?p=27520080

BMW Individual & Lane Change Assist https://g07.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1799732

TLDR; All BMW Manufaktur Individual 490 paints (colors which have been available for many years) have not been optimized for current radar compatibility - this includes paint certification and thickness.

And my copy-paste from another thread and translation for LCA deactivation when ordering 490 paints from:

https://www.g20-forum.de/forum/threa...k-lane-assist/

"Please note that with 490 BMW Individual paint the function "Lane change assistant" which is a part of option 5AU "Driving assistant professional" has to be deactivated. This happens by adding option 8TR "decoding additional function"

The problem with the new radar sensors is that different paints reflect or scatter the radar waves differently. In the development phase, every BMW standard production paint is tested and optimized for radar compatibility, but the majority of BMW Individual Manufaktur 490 paints (developed pre-LCA) have not been tested. It may well be that the sensors works without any problems - or there may be many false or non-detections.

Ensuring the radar compatibility of the current catalog of 490 paints is time-consuming, complex and costly according to factory sources and the fact that there aren't significant numbers of 490 paint orders for BMW to justify.

They are:

Frozen Black Metallic
Frozen Marina Bay Blue Metallic
Grigio Telesto Pearl Metallic
Ruby Red II Metallic
Urban Green
Malachite Green Metallic
Nardo Grey
Frozen Deep Gray Metallic

This seem like some pretty awesome color choices. A pretty penny for them, but if you are keeping your car, I see people paying for it. My X3 M was alpine white. I loved Donington, but ultimately I would have loved one of these colors for some more uniqueness with all that HP.

Thanks for the info! I'm sifting through the BMW individual paint visualizer and I see "Ruby Red", but can't find a "Ruby Red II" on any model I select. Is it possible there's really only one Ruby Red?

There's only one Ruby Red and it's paint code S03 Ruby Red II

By the way, where did you see these new colours for the X3? I've tried the BMW USA configurator and couldn't see any new colours...
Pricing and 490 Manufaktur Individual paint options aren't available on the standard BMW USA configurator.

For example the 490 paint options for G05s are $5K-$5500, frozen is priced higher.

You can preview the paint options on the BMW Individual visualizer site:

I don't believe it will show in the build sheets. I beleive you CA will have to use a special order confirmation form and email it to the specific email contact at NA.
That's correct.

Many BMW North America dealerships aren't familiar with the Manufaktur Individual ordering process but it's more streamlined for X SAVs since it's only paint options and not the bespoke Manufaktur Individual customization program that is available on BMW sedans and coupes produced in Germany.

Hmm, this is really good to know! Though I think not all the Bimmerpost links are working properly, fyi.

So in the context of X3/4: Does this mean that picking one of these colors deactivates the entire "Pro Driving Assist" package? Or just the specific 'Lane Change Assist' feature of that overall package?

Just specifically the Automatic Lane Change

If and when BMW decides to certify various U490 paints then this shouldn't be issue.

i have love and hate relationship with BMW brand, but i wont let go.
the most i would pay for individual color is $1k.
imagine needing a repair?? how much would it cost to get that paint or try matching such color.

what would be the cost of touch up pen?

I'm hoping I don't have to find out the answer to any of those questions with my upcoming individual G80 order. 😬

An M3 Comp? And in Twilight Purple too?!

Both my purple Charger and a certain purple princess nod in approval.

Sure thing! I think they attached properly to this post.

The second pic is more current, and reflects the upsized tires I used to replace the OEMs (255/45/20 vs. 245/45), and the matching purple accent on the center caps.

It's mostly stock. Only mods are a Mopar strut brace & CAI, and a BT Catch Can. No real need to do much else, as it runs and sounds awesome as-is. Most BMWs would dust me on a road course, but for a large sedan these Chargers can hold onto the road pretty darn well. In 2018 we moved from the midwest to WA state, and we drove this the entire way. To my pleasant surprise, we averaged 24mpg over the total trip. Not bad for nearly 500hp and a lot of weight!

Looks great!

The neighbor has a friend that comes by with a Hellcat every so often. It sounds amazing. Has a cool paint job too, it's half white and half black with a pin stripe down the middle.
