Hi All - I placed an order for a 2021MY X3M40i last September and fitted it with almost all options, including the CF Trim Kit upgrade. This came with an added cost like everyone else ($300).

When I was placing the order, the dealer "BMW Genius" showed us the CF Trim in an X3M that included the trim around the IDrive Controller (Piano Black around the shifter). We liked this and he said this is how it would be. Go to pickup the car, CF Trim everywhere that we expected however the trim around the IDrive controller was Piano Black, Not CF as was stated or even shown in the online config. Now builds for the same 2021MY with CF Trim Upgrade are now showing up with CF around the IDrive controller.

Anything I can/should do? Very frustrating to say the least as I am sure it was a change due to people sending complaints just like mine. I have not raised this as a large issue to-date.

It was likely due part shortages. You could ask the dealership if they are willing to swap the trim piece out but not sure how far you'll get with that.

In the end I don't think you should let it ruin any enjoyment of the vehicle or sour the experience with it. At the very least, you could always get the part online and swap it in yourself if it really bothers you and the dealership isn't willing to budge.

Same for me...all 2021 models come with that part in piano black except for the M models.

I found a second hand but immaculate center console from a Competition model on eBay with that part in CF, and right now it's being installed at my dealer in my new X4 M40i.

New part costs here about 500 €, second hand was half the price.

By the way, lucky you that added cost for CF trim is only 300$, here in Spain added cost is 1,046 €, same as it was before in 2020 models with iDrive area in CF.

This was discussed in another thread (see link below, go to page 6). My January 2021 build X3 M40i with the CF option has all piano black on the center console. It seems the March 2021 builds are coming with the CF trim on the center console. I'm planning to ask my dealer to swap out the piano black for the CF center console.

Mine is Jan21 built as well, and came with piano black as I said. Yesterday installed the second hand console from a X3M Comp, and put my M silver emblem on it. Change is very noticeably.

Have to ask, if the CF trim is ordered and is installed around the iDrive knob, what is there if the Fineline Cove Matte Finish Wood Trim is ordered? It would be great if it was also used around the iDrive knob.

The Cove trim will be present around the idrive controller.
