Can anybody tell me what the engine error code you had when the electric engine coolant pump and the thermostat went please?

Also, if someone has an estimate of the costs for repairs... or how many man hours they estimated to perform the repair... would greatly appreciate it. Im gathering up all my documentation now to submit my claim.

thank you!!!

The water pump on my 2013 28i failed in 2019 at around 60K miles and was replaced at the dealership, but I did not receive a letter.

Can someone who received the letter post a copy of the claim form or at least the contact information.

Thanks,

-Bruce

No such letter from BMW Canada. But got the below response when inquired:

Thank you for contacting BMW Canada.

Please note that BMW Canada is a separate corporate entity from BMW North America, which only oversees BMW vehicles produced for the US market; class actions with extended coverage or reimbursement for previous repairs, provided by BMW North America do not apply to Canadian BMWs. At this time, we do not have further information regarding an impeding water pump class action for Canadian BMW’s. We apologize for any disappointment this may cause.

If you have any further questions, please contact our Customer Interaction Centre at 1-800-567-2691. Again, thank you for contacting BMW.

Sincerely,

I was also wondering about this for Canada because I had a water pump and thermostat replacement within the range described and would love to get my money back and the extended warrantee.

I love the car, but some of this stuff has made it expensive to run post warantee for sure.

I got this notice also. It says that I received this because of the records that show my 2012 X3 35i was part of the settlement. I had it fixed by an independent mechanic that showed part numbers, mileage, description, error code and cost. I'm wondering if the part numbers are not what they are looking for. I need to call my mechanic to see what they represent. I just traded my X3 in 2 months ago (at almost 150,000 miles) for a new X3 M40i. My original Water pump went at less than 84,000 miles so maybe I have a shot at getting reimbursed. Worth a shot.

I'm the second owner of a '15 35i and it's at 69K miles. It hasn't had an issue (yet) with the pump or thermostat and it's never been replaced by the original owner. Do they send this letter to subsequent owners or not? Just in case it goes in the next 2 years or 15K miles.

.....When you get to the 100K mile mark I recommend you install new pump and stat as preventative maintenance.

Does this apply to the N52? I have a 2011 28i that I bought brand new and I haven't seen any letter about the waterpump. I have 125,000 miles now on the original waterpump and believe I may be on borrowed time.

It is on borrowed time and no, it doesn't impact your car.

My vehicle (2012 X3 35i) was part of this settlement. I replaced my water pump at 72,000 miles and after 4 years of ownership. I got all my paperwork together and went to submit online and saw the submission period has been extended to May 5 now. This is the third time that I know of that it has been extended. I wonder if this is going to keep going on and on.
Has anyone submitted their claim online or in the mail and received money?

yeah the settlement has been approved but they keep extending the settlement effective date for some reason. I don't think they are going to start sending out payments until after the effective date. My pump is currently broken and I was hoping to just get it repaired under the new warranty, but if they're going to keep pushing the date back, I guess I'll just go ahead and pay for it myself and file for reimbursement. Just no telling how long it will be until I get paid back

I've since traded my X3 in for a new X3 M40i just a few months ago. I had my water pump and thermostat replaced in 2016. I plan on submitting my claim online tonite or tomorrow and it would be great to see $1000 in my mailbox. Seems like a waiting game now.

scratch that idea, my dealer wants $1600 to do the replacement now, $850 parts and $750 labor.

Looks like the settlement has been approved by the court:

The Court in charge of this case approved the Settlement on April 5, 2021, and it became effective on May 5, 2021

Maybe we start getting compensation at some time?

I was able to get my water pump replaced under the new extended warranty yesterday, so it is now showing up in the dealers' system. They only replaced the pump, not the thermostat, but I guess the thermostat is still covered if it fails during the warranty extension.

It only took them an hour and a half to do the replacement under warranty so that's really off-putting that they would normally charge 6 hours labor or $750 for the job if you're paying cash.

Was your pump actually failed or did they change it as preventative?

It was failing. The service advisor said the car needed to have codes for them to do the replacement, which it did.
