The guess is that while there is a new part number for the three stage, the 725s have also been revised with the same updated part. For example it would keep 2017 5 series from needing updated docs to reflect the changed part numbers. If the revised part is compatible, just label it with the old number instead of changing all of the references.
Right - I surmised that above.

Where did you get your airbag Sor?
I bought this used wheel I can't get rid of (no heat or lane assist) from a 2017 and it included the airbag. I thought it was worthwhile because it was just a little more than the airbag alone. I'll eventually find a use for it.

Ok, that explains things. I had thought that you may have bought from ECS or some other e-tailer.

I did buy from ECS, but it got lost by UPS. Then I got refunded and bought the wheel. ECS didn't send a new one because they don't have them at this time, or something.

I ended up buying a part 32307855725 from getBMWparts.com. Jason Reighard was helpful over email. He believes that a 3-stage airbag is not available at this time.

However, while shopping around, I followed one of the links that Sor provided in his write up (in the Google spreadsheet)

https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-...e/32307855725/

If you look at the second image in the product listing, you'll see what I think I'm seeing - a three-stage airbag.

So, I bought the airbag from getBMWparts and it should be here in a week or so. I hope that it is a 3-stage version. I'll update this post or reply with the results.
Looking forward to your swap. It's nice to see other people getting this done.

Yeah, I think I'm gonna have to do this as well. Since every other BMW I've had in the last 10 years has had the M wheel, This sport wheel isn't cutting it.

What kind of market is there for the factory sport wheel/airbag? Wondering what the net cost is for doing this swap.

I would argue there is zero market for stock. You are better off upgrading and hoping to resell the M-sport wheel/ bag to someone with a base 30i that wants the nice steering wheel.

I received the airbag tonight. It is a 3-stage bag and came in some awkward packaging. The packaging reminded me of Amazon's no-hassle packaging. It seemed odd, but it works.

I bought the airbag from getBMWparts.com. It was ordered from BMW and then relay-shipped to me. Cost was about $1000 for the airbag and $1000 for the wheel. getBMWparts was about $300 under my local dealer.

I look forward to the wheel swap.

I had the same packaging.

Did you get the wheel on EBAY or is it new?

I bought it from another forum member.

There are very few out there on eBay. Most of them have the wheel+airbag and are around $3000ish, or more. Several are from overseas and I'm not sure how much I trust that.

The M Performance steering wheel that people would be swapping to when upgrading their G30 M Sport wheels uses the same air bag. I'd be very careful ordering any used on ebay that include the airbag, there's really no reason for it to be changed.

I have more miles than you.

Also, my time is just hyphens, maybe I need one more setting.

Update, just had to disable/enable automatic time. car prompted me to set time.
