Smile Help Finding Engine Number

Hello all,
Long time lurker, first time poster.

I just purchased my 2019 CPO X3 M40i from a dealer through remote sale. I know...maybe not the best move, but I have some unique circumstances, and it only had 4900 miles on it and seems to be virtually mint.

Anyway, again due to some unique circumstances, I will be sending this vehicle overseas.

One of the things that is required to ship it is the Engine Number (which is distinct from the VIN and chassis number, apparently).

So far, the dealer (who I won't name at this point) and BMW "Geniuses" have been singularly unhelpful in getting me this information.

If any of you kind folks can assist me in locating where it might be found (so I can have the dealer give it to me) I would be extremely grateful.

Thanks very much!

No, shipper wants VIN, which obviously I have, and the Engine Number, whatever that is.

It looks like there will be an ESN (engine serial number) somewhere: https://mitchell1.com/shopconnection...erial-numbers/

Yeah I'm sure it exists somewhere, but stealer service shop couldn't find it. That software seems to want a subscription, but may end up desperate enough to pay.

Your dealer should be able to see the engine number in BMWTIS.

You can always spend the 30.00 and do it yourself in about 10 seconds after entering the last 7 of your VIN, https://www.bmwtis.com/

I found it, just had to poke around a bit. It is definitely not obvious. But boy, what a wealth of information available, complete service history just by putting in the VIN. Definitely something to remember if I ever buy another BMW.

I did find the Engine Number, so thanks!

Side note, confirmed my instinct to buy this one sight unseen. Absolutely clean history, apparently someone leased it and then garaged it for 2 years, hardly moved at all, but did bring it in for every scheduled service, so weird, but their loss my gain!

Thanks again!

Yes, a wealth of knowledge. Many questions asked on this site, the answers are in BMWTIS.

Good luck with your purchase!

Some other members might chime in, but be aware, that there are different lights needed for driving in Europe. Meaning orange turn signal not red for example.

Hi,

I was a bit underwhelmed with the sound on my new X3e despite my choosing the HK upgrade. I reached out to BMW to figure out if it was a 464 or 600 watts system, but was told that they don't know.

My OCD prompted me to subscribe to TIS for a day. However, though I found the generic pdf, I couldn't find a way to look up my own VIN.

Is it even possible, or did I burn $30 foolishly? Is there any other way of finding the specifications of installed components? Or should I just try to live a normal life...

Thank you

According to the car brochure here in Australia the system is harman/kardon Surround Sound system, 16 loudspeakers, 600W digital amplifier

Yes you can definitely pull up your complete build. Though mine didn't specify wattage on the HK.

From the Home screen (after login) you will want to choose AOS, then Repair Manuals and Diagrams (AIR)

Then click Start, which will open up a new Tab/Window

At that point, you should be able to enter your VIN, and get all the goodies.

Hope this helps,

If the options list codes dont yield an answer, you could also try drilling into the parts numbers and google the headunit part number perhaps.

Thank you. I would never have been able to figure out this on my own.

The VIN specific documentation suggests a 600W speaker system .

My concern arose as the HK website in the US mentions 464W while the BMW website when I built the car (HK is no longer available on G01) mentioned 600W. I guess, I'll rest for now, believe that disappointing as it may be, it's 600W.

And who knows, it may improve after breaking in for a few more weeks.
