Another Hitch thread

I have an X3 2014 28i and I am getting a hitch installed. The company I am having do the install does not want to touch the wiring. Go see BMW they say. I searched the forums but cannot seem to find information on the wiring harness side of things. Anyone had experience tackling this part of the hitch install? Thanks in advance!

Not sure what hitch you got. But this is from stealthhitches website (their wiring harness). Look at the pdf on the left hand side.

Hey just wondering what hitch you went with and who did the install in town? I'm wanting to get one for a bike rack. Did the install require cutting the trim?

I dont believe it will involve cutting the trim. I am going to buy the hitch at Rack Attack. They charge around $600 all in for the hitch plus install. I dont really want to tackle the install myself, so I am OK with the cost. That is for a class three hitch as well, 2" receiver.

This is my torklift central eco stealth hitch with kuat bike rack. Picked up my new 2 wheels last week. A small oval cut was needed for the bottom rear trim. Kept that oem look. The tow adapter I can take off when not in use.

Wow.. getting the wiring done has turned into a thing.. I have found online a Curt flat 4 trailer harness, doesnt seem too difficult to install. Some splicing required, but thats not a big deal. Members on here have posted the manual for a couple options, including the BMW OEM part install. Anyone have experience installing a Curt or something similar?

BMW just quoted me $400+ for the wiring harness and $400+ for the control unit plus another $400 for install.. seems really effing steep!

Hi! I did NOT.. it ended up just not making sense cost wise. VCM was super helpful and after all the research and calling around I did, I would use them in a heartbeat.

I did end up making a bunch of programming changes to my X3 though. There is a local guy that does it for $80/hr. When I priced out my time and the cable etc, it was a no brainer. We did a bunch of changes,

Added bluetooth audio streaming
Open/Close the tailgate from the fob and the button at the dash
Turned off the warning on start up
Unlock all doors when engine shut off
Open and close all windows via the fob

And a couple other little things. Was WELL worth it.

That looks pretty sick. Kinda wish mine was also white to color match a rack like that. My X3 is black so it'll color match anything, but that's kinda boring...

...speaking of BIKE RACKS, anyone here have any experience with racks made by "Kuat"?....their 'Beta' rack looks interesting, simple clean design and reasonably priced:
