More and more when I go into my local BMW Dealer I feel distrust, and on edge. I feel the service department withholds information and is almost predatory in their dealings. The parts depts. on hand inventory is absolutely bare bones, there is really no attempt by them to earn my business. They could care less. I can get anything for my cars now in 48 hours online and not pay close to the inflated Dealer Retail. I have no problem paying more for excellent service to a trusted professional but more often than not the tech or advisor I'm speaking with has no significant product knowledge pertaining to my issue or feigns ignorance to perpetuate their fee model. Interesting issue. I know it should not happen but parts being supplied from so many vendors and countries it is hard to avoid totally.
Curious if those with this issue park their car under the sun a lot and have very cold winters. I still hand wash and dry my F97 myself and have not noticed any rubber gap on the roof. Mine is parked indoors but not in a temperature controlled garage.

So glad I did pano-delete, for various reasons. Had pano on previous M’s last 20 years and seriously don’t think I ever used it, like ever lol.

One of the reasons I always wanted an X3MC over an M40i was the option to delete the moonroof with the Executive Package. Bums me the used one I found is not a slicktop.

Based on the same noises described above, I definitely have a shrunken seal and so the car is at the dealership today for repair. I was expecting this to be a relatively short job, but was just told that one of the techs, "noticed your sunroof wasn't sitting level."
So they are keeping it overnight and hope to have it repaired tomorrow after to talking to BMW for advice. Let's see how this one plays out.

This seems to be a more common issue than I originally thought. Has anyone had any issues with water getting inside? I was going to wait to have it addressed when I am in for an oil change next month, but recently dealt with water inside my Mini so am naturally a bit paranoid about water.

So finally got the car back and the good news is that the windo noise has now completely gone. Apparently they did completely lift the sunroof and put it back in flatter, as well as replacing the seal. The seal shrinkage and lack of adhesive is pretty evident from the before and after photos...
The order of the photos is as follows: Before - Driver side Before - Passenger side After - Driver side After - Passenger side Regards, James.

Did mine today... took about 20 minutes.
Removed the strip at each end for about 3", stretched it from the middle out toward both ends, applied a very small bead of Epoxy for about 2" per the instructions in this thread, and re-installed the strip... done. Thanks for posting this!

I was really getting dissapointed from the wind/road noise in my car. This has been a super satisfying fix. |
