After 18 months of ownership and over 24,000 miles, I just learned that when I lock the doors, the gas tank door also locks. I was confused for a few seconds when I couldn't open it lol

I was complaining to my brother the other day (he has a m340i) that although my X3 has a hands free tailgate with kick-to-open, it sucks and rarely works properly. So he gave it a few tries and couldn't even get it once until the end he just kicked underneath really fast and it opened.

So for me so far, just kicking underneath quickly - one smooth motion forward and quickly back - I've gotten pretty much 100% success rate. And I barely have to kick under the bumper at all. Doesn't matter if I'm kicking left, middle, or right side. Just works everytime. And even when I try to kick as fast as possible (like stupidly fast) it still works.

Give this a try if you guys are having issues with the kick to open feature. I'm curious if this is this works for others too.

For the guys struggling with the hands free tail gate not opening properly TRY THIS...

Stand as close as possible to the bumper first.
Line your KICK foot up with the BMW emblem.
Take a step back
Give a Kick motion as close to the bumper (where your typical tow hitch would be) without actually hitting it.

Should work perfect every time

There are a number of good videos on YT showing the successful technique. Some are by Geniuses and others dealer personnel. Seeing it in action sometimes helps. I run a 98%-99% success rate. My wife not so much.

Thanks a ton! This got me to a near 100% success rate after struggling to use this feature for a month.

If you press the panic button on the remote for a couple seconds it activates the path lights. Couple seconds longer activates alarm.

Possibly 20 tracks rolled into one on a ripped CD. Use the OPTIONS button to edit/remove tracks from the storage/internal HDD.
Do you know if the Options button can be used to remove whole folders from internal HDD?

cheers

I couldn't find that feature for folders but what I do if I need to amalgamate all my folders into one "Music Collection " folder is assemble ALL my tracks into one folder on the PC/Laptop...I have 750 tracks...LOL Anyway I put them all in one folder on the PC and then onto a USB (still all in one folder) takes 10 secs to remove all files in music collection including and various folders we may have created. Then simply transfer the Music Collection from USB back into the now empty Music collection folder...about a minute or so for 750 files. I know its a workaround but it takes little time and it's very simple to do. Then you can select Alphabetical or Shuffle to listen to your music....with alphabetical simple to go to artist or track (s) using dial eg E for Everly Brothers. One other useful thing about organising on the PC first is you can rename your files and put name of Artist in front of all Tracks followed by track name eg Patsy Cline_Crazy...then if you dial in Patsy Cline whilst using alphabetical it will play ALL Patsy Cline tracks in alphabetical track order. Please no comment on the genre of my music choices... Sometimes work arounds are what you have to do ...if that's what it takes.

I had to purchase the necklace within a week of buying an X3 for her.

Now, she doesn't want to let go both...

I have over 1k FLAC albums in the car. I can of course only listen to one track at a time but I want my whole digital collection available rather than shuffling music around every month or two. Load it and leave it. Then again...I very rarely mess about with playlists as I listen to albums so I keep it simple.

This is great as was getting tired of doing the carpark tailgate chicken dance. Now I just wish you could close the tailgate with the key fob...

Trunk switch on the driver door closes the trunk as well. Just got to hold the button the opposite way until the trunk is closed. (Just another tip for those who don't know) but agree key fob option would be nice!

As brettl mentioned, you can code that via Bimmercode.

You can keep the key fob button (to open the tail gate) depressed and it will close the tailgate. It starts with a delay of a second or so, and stops if you let go off the button. Pressing again will resume

Found this out by accident - if the radio is off, hitting the volume up button on the steering wheel turns it back on, albeit at a low level which you can then increase. Tried it on my wife's MINI and it works on that car too - can't believe in all my recent BMW car ownership I've never stumbled across this before....also couldn't find it in the handbook as a feature.

Or you can Bimmercode the keyfob for 1 press to close, much better than keeping the button pressed till the tailgate is closed
