So for most people under general settings - other, they have a "remote software upgrade" where it shows the current version along with the the ability to upgrade the software if there is a new update.

I don't have a "remote software upgrade" option. What would be the cause of this? I have a 2020 with idrive 7.

Could the reason be that I'm so far behind on the software that I don't have the latest version that enables this? Or is there some other reason? Is this something I need to pay to unlock with BMW?

RSU is only available on the MY '22+ X3 LCI.

That's true. I attached the SIB for vehicles that have RSU capability.

You're not missing much - people on here have reported November update a week or so back they have. I don't have it showing in the app / car available yet.

Perhaps they do a rolling upgrade to save the bandwidth and, as usual, I am at the back of the line.

On X5 forum a lot of people are still waiting for July's update as well. Me included (I'm still on 03/22). Someone on there posted BMW is prioritizing iD8 first, and then going to release the update to iD7 vehicles.

If your G01 is built on and after 6/2021, you can go to the dealer saying that the exterior mirror settings are lost after key and profile changes. They will flash your car to S15A-22-11-500 or higher according to this SIB. You can probably just bring up this SIB to your SA. Note that RSU is always one step behind the latest I-level. The current RSU rollout is S15A-22-07-5XX. This SIB gives you a newer I-level than RSU.

Mine is a pre-LCI early 2021 built X3 with no RSU but it does have online capabilities.

I cannot update iDrive (since no RSU) but now and then the system updates and push new apps into my car.

For instance today, out of the blue, it appeared in the car some new apps such as Car Caring and Window Automation. In the past it pushed into my car the M Lap timer and Alexa.

It seems that the car can also update Maps, but I usually do it manually due to the size of the file.

Me neither, but it appeared to me recently out of the blue. It has something to do with a support I had from local BMW genius in my country. I was trying to get My Trips working on My BMW app and when I was losing hope he had the idea of deleting my car from connected drive website and adding it back again. I received two automatic emails in the middle of the afternoon (out and back in) with these steps and he later confirmed to me he had done that.

After this I got the My Trips working on My BMW app and a week later more or less the car installed these apps (Care Driving and automatic window) overnight.

Do they both work? BMW so far has claimed that you need SP18 hardware for these features for fully function.

Caring Car (or Care Driving) works manually thru iDrive (got a new icon on the left side menu and an icon on App page). There are two modes: Energize and Relax. You can set theme, etc for each one. Voice command does not work, though. So if I say "hey BMW please energize me" it says this function is not available.

Automatic window I still have not tested. Will let you know.

Quick update on this. Car Caring recently started working they voice commands. Earlier BMW assistant used to tell “this command is not available” but the feature worked manually thru the menu. Now it works by voice command too.

Hey guys just got a 2017 BMW X3 xDRIVE28i & the Nav system keeps rebooting approx. every 5 minutes & wont pull up the Navigation menu. The dealer said it needs an update but it doesnt look like this vehicle is compatable w/ RSU.

When I enter my VIN to get the update to install via USB, BMW's website returns a software for a 2016!
I assume this is the wrong file? Usually software/firmware updates are model specific so the same software version shouldnt work for 2016 & 2017 vehicles.

It keeps giving me an error when trying to update, it doesnt even find the file on the USB

Any help is appreciated. I made sure the USB drive was formatted to FAT32 & the .BIN file is on the root of the drive. Also tried a different USb drive to no avail.
