Largest 17" tire size on '08 X3

Hello, I'm looking to replace my 235/55/17 tires on my '08 X3 (all stock suspension) and would like to go bigger. I think the stock size looks too small and I'd like to fill up the wheel wells more. I'm not interested in buying new rims so I'd like to keep the tires 17".
I was thinking to move up to 235/60/17..... has anyone tried this size or larger?
Are there any issues with putting larger than stock tires on these vehicles?
Thanks in advance!

I'm interested in the answer to this as well LOL. I'm looking for a rugged look.

Hi there,
I just tried 245/65R17 on wheels that have an offset of 20 (not the stock 38).
And i get a little rub when i turn the front wheels to maximum turn.
Also, the wheels are studded, if that makes any difference.
I got those tires with the wheels when i bought them.
i will be getting 225/65R17 or 235/60R17, those have like 15mm more clearance and should be no problem, but of course the speedo will be a little off.

I wish that the 245/65R17 wheels would have worked, i think the car looks awesome on them!

And also , i have found many threads online that say 235/60R17 should be fine, and some even say, that is the best upgrade they did .

Good luck.

255/60/18 All Terrain Tyres Fitted to BMW OE Alloys

Hi All,
Newbie member here, hoping this post helps even though refers to 18" rather than 17" wheels.
This weekend I have installed 255 / 60 / 18 AT tyres on BMW factory 18" alloys.
No rubbing or issues, has provided the aesthetic closed arch gap I was looking for and the enlarged profile is great for comfort on UK potholed roads.

EDIT / Update: Front Tyres rubbed on full lock and deemed unsafe. Had to refit OE wheels and forge a new plan, possible go with narrower and lower profile fronts or swap out for 17" tyres with a 60 profile...

Hey! That was a good looking setup, sad that you got rubbing. I have those same 18" inchers and I wish for thicker tires, so I'm wondering if you found solution for those or went down to 17"?

Thanks yeah, I loved the aesthetic of the OE wheels with AT tyres, but the rubbing issue and my mechanics failure with the suspension lift kit install, resulted in my scrapping of the all-terrain look and function and I've since gone with the other end of the spectrum option.
I now have 20" wheels with sadly low profile sport tyres as it proved a straight fit with no issues and allowed me to get the car through MOT without any further delay.

Old thread revival.
I had Nitto tires on stock wheels.
275/50/17.
These worked perfectly with some spacers. But now the tires are worn out and I can't find the replacement. My search is ON. If anyone has some suggestions, please share.

Just wondering how you find the ride with the 225/65/17 all terrains. Looks like it should be comfortable. I'm trying to finx the ride on mine though not with all terrains.

Looking at this for my wife's '08. How much spacer did you need?
