Boot hatch opened washing car

First time using my new power washer (Nitfisk 135) and I notied the door locks opening, so that was a little concerning. The pressure of the water activated the comfort open? OK no big deal.

When the boot actually opened, I was like this is an issue.

Wouldn't want to run this car through an automatic car wash...

Don't wash it with your keys in your pocket?

Yes I won't have the keys in my pocket next wash.

Would this help if it was going through a automatic car wash? Not that I plan to do that...

Maybe need a RF blocking key case?

Don't know, but don't put it through an automatic car scratch anyway!

If the key is in the car, the boot will not open.

Had the boot open thing a few times, it's as the pressure washer line passes under the boot it triggers the sensor. Really spooks me every time I do it. Just have to remember to leave the key somewhere.

I found that having the key fob in my pocket, while hand washing the car, resulted in the doors continuing to unlock numerous times. It seems to occur when water ran across the door handles while touching the car body with a sponge elsewhere.
Only way to avoid that was to take the fob out of my pocket and place it well away from the X3 while washing it.
Have not had this occur with any other vehicle I have owned.

I keep my key in a faraday pouch when washing the car.

I washed my X3 for the first time today at the wand wash. The doors locked and unlocked several times while washing and the rear hatch opened once as well. I never had any issues like this with my previous Volkswagen (well, the doors that is).

Just leave the key fob inside the vehicle when you're washing it. Comfort access won't trip on every little water spritz, and you won't get locked out of your vehicle.

I have had the doors lock and unlock numerous times while washing the vehicle. It occurs on a 2010 BMW M3, 2012 and 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee and a 2018 and 2019 BMW X3 M40i.
It occurs because of the vehicles having door handles with touch sensitive unlocking/locking.
I leave the FOB in the garage and it never occurs again.

Thanks for the info!

New to the forums and definitely was confused by the hatch opening by water pressure at the car wash.

Thanks for the tip.
