According to another BMW statement, this car is to be the first China-assembled car for export and that BMW doesn't care where it's built. Well, BMW; I do and if it's assembled in China it's off my list.

Haha for a while it seemed like more people cared more about the design of the grill than it is made in China.

Hopefully BMW will have the same quality control in place where it doesn't matter if the car was built in Germany, Spartanburg, or China.

Maybe BMW will just take a page out of Apple's playbook and say their cars are designed in Germany.

Just be prepared for a bunch of knockoffs in China. Oh wait there's already motor version of the ix3 - the Kia Soul hahaha

Funny, the exact same words was said when Spartanburg opened Let's see how it will turn out, when it's due within a couple of years

Looks like how an Electric SUC should

Love the new looks. It's important for the EV version to look distinctive and the wheels and the grill do the job quite well.

If only they had a 350 mile range - SUVs need to take people far and 249 just wouldn't cut it today.

I'd also like to know what it's offroading (or softroading capabilities are).

It's not about quality--China-assembled cars could be better than SC-assembled cars. It's about buying things I don't "have" to buy from a place that steals intellectual property. There is so much automation, now; that quality is a function of the designers and programmers--not idiots with rubber hammers to make things fit, as one used to see in films of Detroit.

It's changing fast...

I like them both... Electric for City.

M-Car for nights weekends and getting the hell out of the city!

As soon as BMW makes an Electric M-Car I will be replacing my current M-Car.

Is it? I live in a highly populated part of the country and do not see that many FULL electric vehicles on the road.

I know automakers are going down this road because of governmental regulations in certain countries and people think these cars are gonna save Mother Earth.

Just because automakers want to PUSH a product does not mean it's going to sell or sell well.

Time will tell. I have a suspicion it's gonna be a hard sell for automakers in the old USofA.

People here want big monster Trucks, SUVs, cars with a Real range for road trips.

The millenials are coming up next to be the biggest customers for cars. A lot already prefer to carpool, ride a bike, rideshare, & when & if they do purchase automobiles, it's more heavily considered than it is from the previous generation

Millennials are scared of driving and would rather have mommy give them a ride to the local GameStop

Just from a supply standpoint, doesn't it make sense to build electric cars in China? Sending the batteries and motor to the rolling chassis seems more expensive than just assembling it all at one place.

Not really advocating for more Chinese production, but at least in the case of the i cars, it seems to make sense. And does there come a time that IC cars get the BMW badge and i cars have the M left off?

The iX3 is flexible to be manufactured at the three key X3 assembly locations for individual markets.
China,Roslyn and Spartanburg.
