I bought my X3M a couple months ago and am in Chicago. It came with the Michelin 4s tires in 21 inch factory sizes. They are almost at the end of their life and am going to replace them with a set of all-seasons in the 265/40/21 and 295/35/21 sizes. All the talk in this tread is about Michelin tires. Has anyone ran the pirelli all season tires in these same sizes? The pricing is similar but just wondering which is the better performing all-season tire?

Hello guys, where did you guys install these tires?
Ok, so I got my pilot sport all season 265/40/21, 295/35/21, delivered to a local Mr. Tires, they called me and says they can't install it because it's not stock size. So, I called firestone, they say the sidewall is too thin, the machine they have is going to scratch the rim, thus, they can't do it. Where can I get it done? I live in Maryland. Thanks. |

About the tires, wow, what a difference...even the A/S tires in the 295 size feel gripper and better than the stock 265 contis. The contis did not age very well, I had about 5k miles and I think half the tread life was gone. |

I've read all 6 pages of this thread with great interest and wish to go larger. In summary, on the factory 21" rims we can go as large as 265's on the front and 295's on the rears without rubbing anything and without using spacers.. Is this confirmed and correct?
I have also seen people running WITH spacers from 12mm up to 15mm. Very confusing. A nice summary from those who have installed them would be great. |

Nice. Good call.
I'll likely do the same from my X3M. I know of a company in the OC with same day service. |

I've done 11.7k on Continentals and next week greeting Michelin PS4Ss fitted. Same size. The dealer, UK, reckons changing tyre size might cause issues if there was a problem. I'm happy to keep the tyre sizes stock and I doubt what he says.

I had this exact setup installed yesterday. I haven't driven much yet to comment on the difference in driving aspects, but if anyone is thinking about doing this, the tires are getting hard to find. I tried Costco and discount tire and both could get the fronts, but the 295/35/21 rears were not available and Michelin couldn't give them a time when they would be. I ended up getting them from simpletire.com.
I had 12mm spacers in the front and 15mm in the rear and left those on. There is definitely some poke and I might take them off. Not sure yet. |

We both autocross and track my M5C and his x3MC… so based on your comment, for the street use and general spirited driving, going wider to 265/295 would be fine but for track/autocross you would recommend sticking to OEM 255/265 setup? My concern is for rear 10" wheel having 295 tire (max tire width allowed on this wheel size) will create too much "tire flex" (not sure of terminology)? |

Question: I realize the stock summer tires are a staggered set up, with the rear tires being slightly wider. Makes sense for a performance vehicle - wider rear tires help "hook up."
My questions is, for an all-weather tire, why not run the same size all the way around? In snow, you'd want the tires a little thinner. And if they're the same size all-around you'll be able to rotate them and substantially increase the life of the tire. |
