2017 F25 6cyl transmission service

Hi,
I have the procedure to replace the transmission fluid and pan/filter on my 2017 F25 6 cyl, but I was wondering if anything else should be done while the pan is off. Somewhere online I was reading about transmission shudders and various services and "cleaning screens" was mentioned. So my question is this. Are there any screens or other things that need to be cleaned or replaced why I have the trans pan off? Thanks.

No screens.
The pan has the filter intergraded into it along with some magnets.
It will hold about 6L for drain and refill. I would use only Lifeguard 8 which is what it is filled with from the factory.
Also, check your pan bolts with a magnet. If they are aluminum they are a one time use, if steel they can be reused…

My n55 was being replaced and while at the stealership I made the mistake of requesting a trans fluid change just trying to be proactive with it and they replaced the engine and then tried to charge me 2500 for a transmission fluid change. They went on and on trying to justify that price telling me how complex of a procedure it is and I just waited and eventually told the service mgr I did it myself in my driveway on my e83 x3. That knocked them off their high horse and and back down to reality. They will charge you 50 bucks a quart too if you try and use the bmw fluid which you dont have to.

Not tranny related, but consider a fluid change in transfer case and reset the adaptations-

I can't offer pricing info since I got off my butt and did it myself several years ago. The procedure is a bit detailed since the transmission has to be refilled within a certain operating temperature range. I used Bimmerlink to monitor trans temp while refilling. There is a least one thread on this site discussing the procedure and offering tips on the process. It's not too difficult, but you do need to be able to follow directions.

I do it myself since I know it will be done right. Way too many hacks out there, or cutting corners. Some transfer case models don't have a drain plug so you have to extract it out through the fill plug, they may not do such a good job, even heard of them saying they changed it, but didn't

I had an independent German car shop in SoCal do both in 2019; $264 labor + $455 Parts (fluids and trans pan/filter assembly)....I spec'd ZF Lifeguard fluid, it was VERY pricey- there are other comparable fluids available for a LOT less.

Dang guys thanks for all the responses I appreciate it.
I'm pretty capable but also much more lazy as I get older lol...

I got quoted $250 to do TC and reset adaptations which I thought wasn't too bad, transmission unsure. Probably will just DIY.

Thanks again and good luck to OP.

The transfer case system makes adjustment to the settings as the fluid/parts wear, the "reset adaptations" recalibrates the settings after new fluid and or parts are replaced.

The adaptation reset can be done through diagnosing software, like ISTA, BimmerLink, BimmerTool and many others.

You will also need a hardware interface, a cheap Ethernet to OBDII one for ISTA or wired/wireless for BimmerLink. The latter offers a list of compatible interfaces.

These reset adaptations are only for the transfer case?, for the transmission oil change, does the reset must be done too?

Correct, transmission adaptions are only reset when changing certain internal trans parts. You just need to exactly follow the critical filling procedure steps to ensure the fluid level is correct.
