Waiting for the MSO?

I’ve been trying to collect my wife’s new X3 from the dealership but they’re telling me that they’re still waiting for the MSO (manufacturer’s state of origin). The cars been at the dealership since this past Sunday (delivered from SC) and now I’m getting impatient.

What exactly is this MSO and where is it coming from and how long does it take? The car I’m waiting for is a dealer lot car so I’m hoping they’re not trying to jerk me somehow. Has this happened to anyone? I’ve been leasing for 10 years and I’ve never even heard of a MSO. Also I’m in NY if that matters. Just frustrated because I wanted the car yesterday!

A MSO is essentially the title from the Manufacturer.

The Dealer signs an MSO over to the State for Registration and License.

Without a MSO, the car cannot be sold or registered.

Right. Your dealer buys the car and takes title from BMWNA and then sells the car to you. The MSO proves that the dealer owns the car that they're selling. The problem is likely with BMWNA, not your dealer (who after all, would like to record a sale).

MSO gets shipped with the car from the VPC. Dealer probably lost it and now has to wait for BMW to send them a replacement.

Thanks guys, I figured it should come with the car as well but I guess it didn’t. Anyone know how long something like this could take? Really need to pick up the car this week as we’ve been sharing a car while waiting for the car to come in.

Out of curiosity, how long it took from waiting carrier assignment to get to the dealer?
