Apple Carplay Services
My 2019 X3 M40i was delivered on Oct 18, 2018. It had Apple Carplay for 1 year. It, Apple Carplay, is gone now. I called both the Assist and Genius lines to find out my options. The connected app shows 240 months for $300. That is the only option shown.
I did some Internet searches and have come to the following conclusions, First,BMW decided on an $80 per year subscription Then, BMW decided to make it free for most, mine included, vehicles. I cannot find it anywhere in I drive. My iphone has it enables and it is BT connected. Does anyone have any additional info? My other vehicle has Carplay unlimited/forever service. I am not sure why BMW thinks this kind of customer aggravation is a good thing. Last edited by Radar314; 12-11-2019 at 02:46 PM.. |

Yes, I called both Bmw assist and Bmw genius. The assist guy said he would get back to me. Seems odd they would not know the answer.

Keep in mind the carplay decision was pretty recent. They likely need a month or two to work out the process to match theory to reality.

I read on this forum that this would take place in the US in January 2020.

Thanks for the good news. I was beginning to wonder why there would be a 240 month subscription duration on a vehicle. It sure would be nice if they would have sent out an e-mail to me on this. I guess that I just had a bad timing on this project. I am sure that Carplay will be back soon. I do enjoy Carplay in my other vehicle.

No go on the option button and update. I tried that yesterday. It did do a quick update but no Carplay options.
Seems odd that it will take so much time to enable Carplay. I had it for a year trial period. I am sure if I had paid for the 240 month subscription, it would be enabled that day. Why will it take 6 weeks to enable it on my vehicle? |

I had this question too and my SA had no idea. I checked my car and could find no way in iDrive to re-access my Carplay. I figured there would probably be a roll-out period, but every article I read referenced the availability to be immediate. Thanks for the info on a possible January 2020 roll-out, otherwise I'd be aimlessly scouring the internet and my iDrive options.

Today I got a call from a BMW rep that explained the new policy. Seems like they have just been notified about the new policy. He agreed to get back to me after he gets more definitive info. Made me feel a lot better after fooling around in the X3 and trying to find stuff that is not there.

Picked up our car on 12/11 and the Carplay subscription is valid until 12/11/2039 - so it appears at least the new policy is in place, hopefully they just fix it across the board for everyone else.

My 2109 X3 was delivered in January 2019. I just logged into my Connecteddrive account and the Carplay subscription is good through January 2039. BMW appeared to have taken care of my Carplay exteneion already.

I took delivery on 1/31/19 and ConnectedDrive still shows as expiring on 1/31/20 for me. Hopefully it updates soon.

Just checked my connected app. Took delivery Oct. 18, 2018 of a 2019 M40i. Still says 240 months for $300. Not nice.

Received an email yesterday from BMW NL (Netherlands), that Carplay will be extended to "Unlimited use" for every BMW.
The change will be made in the upcoming weeks..
