Yes I have had this on similar length drives (XS is my phone).

Good point, I am using Waze via Apple CarPlay so is probably the culprit.

I think CarPlay is drawing a lot of juice from the battery as it's connected to the X3 via WiFi. Together with the Waze App running, it's a double whammy. If I don't have the phone plugged in (I did not spec in wireless charging), my phone's battery can go from 90% to 40% in an hour or less.

You'll need a wireless charging case for those models, first iPhone to have wireless charging was the 8/8 plus

Thanks for giving me an idea of a good case! I had been delaying buying a case for my iPhone XS, but the darn thing slides around so easily I am afraid of damaging it.
Never considered Apple having a leather one. Just ordered.

Plus as you say it will keep the phone in place better in the wireless charging tray.

I.e. try other Qi-compatible devices on it, and try your phone on other Qi-compatible wireless chargers (IKEA got some very cheap ones that works just fine. Some integrated to furniture...)

BMW should replace on warranty ..

I keep calling my local dealer and checking, but the part is still on engineering hold apparently. So at the moment i'm using a USB charger in the cigar lighter socket and a 20cm lightning cable.
Thanks for the tip. Going to bug the dealer where I purchased versus bothering my cool local service guy on this one probably.
They had the x4 over a week now.

I'm afraid to even ask status.

I was asked to come in to replicate the problem after the first couple dahs because everyone's phone would charge .

After a few minutes with the tech they saw what I saw and then noticed that their phones were not charging either.

So the dealer ordered a non-stock part from Germany that is on backorder (82 total units ). However my paperwork doesn't include any part number or mention a backorder.

Dealer kept the x4 for almost two weeks.

The expected lead time is 7-10 days which I know to be standard backorder speak.

I agree, I just like this SE model as it still fits in my pocket, I only got it about six months ago and not sure if I can upgrade this quick.

Just called my dealer to chase since it's been 3 months!

They said the part is still on backorder, but they're expecting to have one by this time next week. So i am booked in for a 90 minute slot on Thursday (9 days time).

Fingers crossed my new wireless charging tray does what it says on the tin!

iPhone XS Max. No case

Before someone mentions that the phone is sliding or in the wrong position , I can sit with the car in drive and the light goes orange after 1-2 seconds. It is not a phone sliding out of place issue,
I received my G2 X4 last month and have the same problem. I'm using a Note 9 and it gets insanely hot and that's why the orange light comes on. I also agree the charging is very slow.
