Android Auto officially coming to Idrive 7.0

Amazing news. We will finally get Android Auto.

Highlights:

Coming Summer 2020 to Idrive 7.
Will permit display of content in HUD, dash and main display screen

https://arstechnica.com/cars/2019/12...inment-system/

I hope that those of us with 2020 models with Idrive 7 will get an OTA to add this functionality.

I hope they also add support on iDrive 6, but I doubt it.

unlikely... I guess we can safely assume that iD6 will not be developed any further as far as we are talking about features, we'll probably get fixes only

Cool. I'd be happy just to have the ability to unlock/start my X3 with my Android, as almost every other BMW owner with ID7 can. Why they excluded the X3 I have no idea...

They still sell cars with idrive 6 but don't support it? BMW us really awful in software and digital offers in general.

Great news but too little too late. The damage has already been done. My previous 2016 Skoda cost 1/3rd as my X3 but had android auto and carplay as standard with a touch screen that you can actually reach. Meanwhile there are hundreds of thousands of bimmers for sale with neither smartphone integrations.

Support, and Develop new features are two very different tasks.

I remember obsessing about torque curves, in-gear acceleration figures, NVH etc. Nowdays it's more about the IT platform. In fairness cars are better developed mechanically now but even so quite small IT issues cause an amazing stir.

I have 2020 model with idrive 6. Here in Europe having fancy screen with idrive 7 is additional 3000$. So newest version with already obsolete system.

GAY. Bought a '19 in August with iDrive 6.0. Would have waited a month if they were vocal with their intentions.
