$5/month sirius the best deal?

I did not think I would want a subscription after the 1 year trial but I do miss it.

So far the best they offered me was $60 for a year.
Anyone get any better?

$60 a year is a regular priced promo. If you're asking about deals, then under $50 is where you'd want to be. I got emails with under $4 a month offers.

I just renewed/transferred all of our vehicles to that same plan....Sirius "Light", and it still has far more channels than we need, but includes the about ten that we really want. Never use streaming outside the car, so this seemed like a great deal!

EDIT: ....until I just read suby01!

Best I've been offered after about a year away was 4.99/mo on Select package for 12 months.

$60/yr all in is the best I've ever been able to get them down to. You can get lower for 6 months, but then you have to waste time on the phone with them again...and again...and again. With 3 cars, once a year is about all the XM BS I can stand.

The $5 a month was the lowest I've been able to get. But then they add tax and music license fees.

I have a different lifetime streaming account from another vehicle so I'll have to see how the sound is on CarPlay. Anybody stream instead of directly on the radio? Is the quality the same?

The $5 a month is pretty much the "regular" deal. If you simply search xm radio membership. This price pops up so anyone is eligible. The purpose is to get a good deal. You can do that by calling in to complain that you are being charged too much. Or actually be one of the customers who gets a promo in the mail/email. I mean literally we are talking about $1-$2 a month difference here. Thats a cup of lousy coffee in the scheme of things. But yepp. Lol.

Apologies....I put it in quotes as I couldn't remember the name, but it's actually what is shown here....the Select plan. $60/year.

Always curious about the fees...so, what is your actual bill? Is it like cable companies where they promote $79/mo, but with fees/taxes it's like $100/mo?

We still have some time left on our complimentary subscription, but the better half may want to keep afterwards...I couldn't care less about it.

Sirius is literally the worst company on the planet with respect to customer service and billing. You have to watch them like a hawk.

They will start billing you a higher rate automatically after these promotional packages if you do not pay attention.

I found out that they were billing me for 6 months after i had cancelled service because I had an old debit card number re-activated. Somehow they started re-billing to the same card number without my authorization. To this day - I still do not understand the circumstances behind how it happened, but i can tell you that you absolutely need to watch them religiously if you have auto billing setup. They will change the amount billed without authorization are a nightmare to reverse after the fact. I have never dealt with a worse company.

Having used Sirius for the last 11 years, I can say that if you call and fight for a better price, you'll always get it. I told them last time that my next door neighbor had been away for 2 years, and that they'd given him a rate of $5.99 per month to get him to come back. They gave me that price immediately, no questions asked.

The previous poster is correct though, that they'll always renew you at the maximum cost. I set a reminder on my phone right after I talk to them to call in a year. It's not a big deal, but I do wish they'd just give me the rate for 3 years, since I always call and negotiate anyway.

Good luck.

Here's the latest bill breakdown with fees:
Package/Plan Subscription Term Charges
SiriusXM Select (6 Month - Promo) 06/14/2019 - 12/14/2019 $29.94
U.S. Music Royalty Fee $6.41
State & Local Taxes $2.72
Total Charges $39.07

So goes from $4.99/month to OTD $6.51/month.

To stream over CarPlay you'll need the app on your mobile phone and log in credentials (yours or someone else's). If you have a subscription try it out. I think SiriusXM added free streaming to all active accounts.

I'll test the quality and get back to everyone, unless someone else beats me to it.

I guess the controls will be whatever the player can do in the app on the CarPlay screen. Most likely less convenient than short cuts can do with the radio.

Ok, finally got around to checking the streaming through CarPlay...

Sound quality is less dynamic. To me it is noticeably more compressed, having less range, less bass and slightly hollow sounding. Asked my wife, who is not an audiophile, if she thought it was any different and she agreed it sounded 'tinny'.

I tried to switch between the radio and phone streaming to do a direct comparison on a particular song but the two sources do not play the same songs in real time. The radio though is significantly louder than the phone even with phone volume all the way up (read something about a different volume adjustment but no matter).

The player controls are fairly decent. You can have favorite stations and toggle between them with the controller or touchscreen. You can go back to recent station selections as well. As a bonus you see all of the currently playing song titles and artist listed on each station.

When you select a different station there is a slight delay but the song plays from the beginning no matter how long it has been listed. Going back to the station list it is updated as songs change and you can glance to see if there is a more preferred song on a different station and switch to that it plays from the start. I like this feature and function.

Bottom line unfortunately, I'm pretty fussy with how my music sounds so to me it is inferior and not worth the cost savings to stream. YMMV

So, with my decision for the higher quality sound comes a cost. But got the usual $5 per month extended from 6 months to 12 months duration for less frequent calls to this hard to deal with company...

Today's Purchase Details
Package/Plan Subscription Term Charges
SiriusXM Select (1 Year - Promo) 12/10/2019 - 12/10/2020 $60.00
SiriusXM Video (1 Year) 12/10/2019 - 12/10/2020 $0.00
U.S. Music Royalty Fee $12.84
State & Local Taxes $5.46
Total Charges $78.30

Works out to $6.53/month to take full advantage of the Burmester upgrade. Not too horrible.

Have to check out this included SirusXM Video subscription- maybe it's music videos and concerts?

What Burmester upgrade? Did you install that or did you mean HK?
With XM, I doubt you will hear anything even remotely close to what a CD sounds like.

Whoops. Yeah, sorry meant HK. Mixed it up with other vehicle (Mercedes).

XM fidelity is definitely lacking in general but my point was that streaming thru Carplay is noticeably worse than through radio

Just got a letter/offer from XM for $2.99 per month + taxes/fees. Didn't look at any of the details because it was for the vehicle we traded in for our X3. Personally don't care, but posting as it looks like that's the lowest price out there that I've seen.
