IMHO....In the "race" to make your BMW sound as obnoxious as you can I think you have a "winner"! Sounds like a "kids car" (ie: noise = cool).....NOT!

My summer car is my Porsche.....it's very quiet, BUT will kick the butt of most that want to challenge me off the line......Like Teddy said "speak softly and carry a big stick!"

I think I may get the upper portion painted to match the alpine white, I put on the carbon fiber M tips. It really looks good in my opinion.

I got these and then took it to a muffler shop they welded in a short piece to customize to the opening.

Cost $60 to get them installed

This was the diffuser fit perfect

I have installed tail pipes and diffuser on 30d. What do you think?
Diffuser and tailpipes are replica. Details and work cost me around US$500

Haven't really noticed any difference in sound. But the X3 looks really cool. The gray never looked right to me with everything else being black.

Any chance, when you can show how that customization came out with that short piece?

That ebay item is the same one that this person used as well on the X4, came out good also.

https://x3.xbimmers.com/forums/showp...5&postcount=13

eBay item number:113940767998

Okay, looks like the inlet ID/OD of 63mm/66mm worked out okay too in X3.

It literally is a 4 inch piece of pipe clamped into the tip and then welded to the cut off end of the original exhaust.

I found local guys who reinstalling BMWs and MBs to M and AMG. They sold me parts and install them day by day. They say that parts are Chinese replica.

You can try to find parts on Aliexpress, but buy it with care.

Jims M3, How did you remove the two round parts on the top each end? I received the diffuser today. Tabs look easy enough, but no clue what behind those round pieces. Of course no instructions were included. Thanks

Apologies in advance to revive a thread that's 1.5 years old.

I've been doing a whole lot of research and can't seem to get all the answers that I would like before moving forward.

I'm looking to see if anyone else has done this exact mod successfully (M40i with X3M/X3MC stock muffler), given that so much time have passed. It would be great if I can see pics of this too.

From research, these are the parts required:
1. Diffuser, which I'll get from eBay that Jims M3 posted
1a. Diffuser mod, trim the openings a bit to fit 2x100mm tips on each side + gapping
2. Resonator brackets, p/n 18309882488 rear left and 18309882565 rear right
3. Clamping bush x2 D=70mm, p/n 18307560780
4. Wire harness, will be custom made to split for the exhaust flap actuator since there are 2 of them

If someone had this installed successfully, can you shed some light if there's any other part that I'm missing or anything else that I would need to do?

I'm NOT looking to install the Dahler/Fi exhaust or cut the M40i tips and add the dual tips on each side.

Did you ever figure this out? I really hate the look of the M40i exhaust.... X3M muffler seems a good option to swap.

Here you go. Cutting and welding still required though.

Thanks but i prefer to go the OEM+ route... not trying to make my M40i an M but rather upgrading certain parts.
I just happen to be a sucker for OEM

An update from my side:

I've bought a second hand X3MC muffler (black tips) and ordered the brackets for the exhaust (which are different from the G01), also ordered 70mm sleeves to connect the pipes under the car.
Furthermore i have bought an X3M diffusor which is still underway and needs to be painted.

The X3M has 2 actuators on the exhaust so i have bought one which i will connect to the OEM actuator.

Lets see if i can get this fixed.
