HK system not "seeing" some music
I've been loading my music onto my 2020 G01 with the HK music system.
I was using WAV & FLAC formats even though the manual doesn't state these are supported. Music played fine and sounded great. I then noticed that some albums were missing and others were missing tracks. I thought it could be strange characters in the file names so I stripped out anything unusual. No difference. I then decided to convert the music to MP3 as this is for sure supported. However the results are identical, the same albums are not being seen/listed. I then wondered about DRM but the manual says files with DRM can be saved but not played. The tracks can be found under Unknown Artist. This could well be a tagging problem....I'll try a couple of test albums with full MP3 tagging but about half of my WAV albums work just fine and there's no tagging possible on those. Has anyone else had these issues?

Have you been copying music from a USB flash drive onto the internal hard drive? Does the problem still exist if you simply leave the USB drive plugged in and play music from that? I've had my X3 for almost a year with a 256 GB USB flash drive full of FLAC files plugged in 24/7 and have not experienced the problem you describe. The filenames of my all tracks only use ASCII characters; the FLAC tags have all sorts of characters.

All the missing tracks are there under unknown artist so it's not picking up some of the folders as albums. The naming of the folders is the usual artist - album name. I have hope as yours works.... |

gugin next time you're in the car could you search under artist to see if the are any "unknown artists"? Maybe you've got a few or none...it would be useful to know. Thanks for your help above.

It looks like it the tags. I've not had this issue with any other player before. Looking under Windows I can see the even some of my WAV files have tags - I didn't think they could have tags. It's the files without tags that don't work.
I've just tagged one track with a demo version of MP3tag, this fixes the issue. Hopefully one of the tagging software programs can automatically fix my missing tags. I'm surprised that even WAVs can be tagged.

It seems like you figured it out. WAVs can technically be tagged. There is room in the WAV format for metadata. As I understand it, though, no standard has been agreed upon for tagging WAV files. I am not sure if there now is something that could be called a standard. Maybe there is and the BMW head unit can interpret it. |

Thanks for checking. I'm away from home for a couple days now. I'm using my spare time to tag the wavs and flacs where tags are missing. Windows makes sense of the tag format so hopefully the car will too.
I've used lots of players, this is the only one I've used which needs tags to this degree. There was a thread a while back about flac tracks being played in the wrong order, now I get why. Back to mp3tag and freedb.... |

Side note:
I think I read somewhere, that uploading FLAC onto the internal drive, automatically changes the tracks to MP3... Also read that using VoiceCommand to put files onto the drive, can keep em as FLAC... "Upload FLAC to Drive" or something... Can't find the post.... EDIT: The VoiceCommand is; "put FLAC music to iDrive"

Interesting foibles with the player / hard drive....
A 256gb usb stick sounds like it works even though 128gb is specified in what passes for a manual. I'd have liked my 1tb ssd to have worked. |
