There was actually an X3M C in the showroom with that colour combo, and although it had the black/silver M-specific wheels it still looked pretty mean
Sophisto was my other choice - and works great with black interior. Nice combo 👍

OK, now have the spec sheet from the dealer, and have to confess to a degree of confusion. Maybe those on here knowledgeable about these things can help?

Car is quoted as having the M Sport Plus package, and as it has 6U3 Live Cockpit Professional listed as standard fit, I'm assuming it's a more recent "LCI" build.

However, the option list for ZMS M Sport+ is costed at £1,700 and includes the following;

22Z 21" 718M wheels
2VF Adaptive suspension
420 SPG
4GQ M seat belts
5AL Dynamic Safety
7M9 extended high-gloss Shadowline

Looking at the current M Sport+ package on the configurator, it costs £2,700 and as far as I can see the only differences are the inclusion of lumbar support, and M Seats. Merino is a no-cost option as well.

My build shows standard Vernasca sports seats with grey stitching.

Is that a recent change? Don't know when builds with the new LC started.
Although M seats would be very nice to have, they may not have been an option at the time.

A moot point I suppose as the build is the build, but my inner geek is curious...

The big change is the M seats - M sport plus package changed recently, but the new cockpit came in with August builds IIRC.

Cheers Pete. The M seats look the mutt's nuts and are fantastic in the X3M, but that's an extra grand's worth of fuel for hooning about

Where i live everything is a steep hill so my fuel consumption sucks, but i will say that 10k miles in i reckon i'm getting a good 15% better than i was in the first 3k miles. The B58 is a fantastic engine but it's tight, needs the miles to loosen it up a bit. Needs a good rev all the way to the redline at least once in every journey long enough to get the oil hot.
I get bored quickly and change cars all the time, i've had this a year now and have no intention of changing it for a good while yet. It's just such a great all rounder.

As an update, getting into my F31 this morning was an odd experience. I've always thought it was a really good car, albeit with a few flaws but the G01 blows it out of the water in almost every department.

- Where the F31 is brisk, the G01 is properly quick and my car actually felt a bit sluggish by comparison. No surprise there with over 100bhp less on tap
- Interior fit, finish and quality of materials feels like a lot more than a few years ahead, not to mention the gulf in technology
- Composure & ride quality is a revelation, even on 21" RFT's - on my 19's the car's like Skippy on rough/uneven surfaces
- Sound insulation is awesome, in comfort mode it's phenomenally quiet even on poor surfaces with RFT's
- the 8AT transmission just highlights how poor BMW manuals can be, particularly in stop-start traffic

I'm not sure I'm going to miss much more than the HUD and the colour combo in moving to the G01. Maybe the split tailgate window and the 'flick to activate' rear wiper. I certainly won't miss the dreadful handbrake, creaking door seals or appalling road noise, as well as the lack of aircon sync and odd indicator stalk operation....

What sort of MPG are you getting if you don't mind me asking?

I rode Cav's 'Rise Above' Sportive out of Cheltenham last August so I know how hilly it is around your part of the world! Snowshill, Cleeve Hill and some of the climbs around Guiting Power were delightful - particularly since it was about 30C

Yesterday's thrashing ended up averaging 21mpg, in the 330 I get about 32 on average across the year which is probably about 75% commuting in slowish traffic. So man-maths says I'll average 25-26 in the M40i - any less than that and I'll have to MTFU and take the bike to work again in winter...

I do love living around here but the two main approaches to my village are 12% and 16%, which is hell when you're coming back from a bike ride

I was averaging around 21/22mpg for the first couple of thousand miles, but now at 10k miles i'm averaging around 24mpg fairly consistently, and if i get away from this area i can easily get in to the high 20's and early 30's on a long run.

Living somewhere flatter i'm sure 26mpg average should be very easily achievable.

I realise it's no comfort for you but that makes me feel much better as it's exactly where I thought it would be. I purchased my M40i on the 1st of June for around £48k and as I drove it off the forecourt I knew it was now worth around £36K. So to hear a car bought in January is still £36k is pleasing news to me. The trouble with cars and the way finance is calculated now, the depreciation is akin to being thrown off a cliff and then slowly sinking in the sea. There is a massive hit and then it slowly drops from there. As an example, when I bought my S3 it was £36k and the day I bought it it was now only worth £26k, I sold it 2 years later for £24.5K. So as long as you don't want to get rid of these things quickly everything is sort of acceptable.

I fully expect this car to either be worth less than its residual value and I'll therefore be handing it back, or I'll have to put in some cash if I want to get out of it sooner. Unfortunately the pitfalls of owning new cars, or just cars in general really.

Done this to death with my dealer on Saturday (I really, really wanted the M seats!) and we finally got to the bottom of it. If you can get a late 2019 build then the 2020 spec. is applied (live cockpit, shadowline ect. - we couldn't nail down an exact date for production) but the M seats are only available on cars built from January onwards which is when the cost of MS+ jumps to £2,700 from £1,700 (so your seats are costing £1,000)…..if you play with the online configurator currently you can only select the updated MS+ pack as that is all that can be selected now.

Personally I even toyed with just saying I'd go for a order on a January build to get the seats but the APR on finance jumped from the current 2.9% (registered before 31-Dec) to 4.9% and that equated to just shy of £60pcm for my spec. which was mental!

Good work getting to the bottom. As you say, APR makes a fair old difference there.

So gather you have ordered now for pre 2020 registration?

Yeah I'm sorted thanks. I've got a 2020 spec. M40i in sapphire black with black leather, MS+, tech. pack, comfort pack, pano. roof and piano black interior trim coming so I'm happy (should get it mid-late December).

The M seats are awesome but it just made no sense at all money wise.

I wouldn't want the M seats to be honest, the standard seats look and feel much better in my opinion.
