Sorry. Stand corrected.

Still a pretty good fit and no fitting kit required.
Yea I like the look you got going on there

Random question. I've noticed a few here swap their own wheels out. I do as well. My prior cars all had pinch rails so I have a rubber adapter with a rail guide.

I'd like to get a BMW jack pad adapter. Any recommendations? Rubber or aluminum?

Check out BMW jack pad adapter on Ebay

The aluminum ones are fine but I have used RED Polyurethane BMW Floor Jack Pad Adapters from Ebay. They are cheap, work fine and red if they roll away under the car.

I made one out of scrap polyethylene material. I would not want one of the rubber ones -- I'd say get either aluminum or a hard plastic.

New to these boards, as I only picked up my m40i this past summer. Looking for a set of snows and was wondering if TPMS sensors are in the rim (tire valve assembly) or in the ABS sensor (onboard with the vehicle)?

On my previous e90, they were in the ABS sensor so I didn't have to worry about paying for an extra set of sensors when I got my set of snows.

Thanks.

It's the same here, it's a TPM inside the tire connected to the valve stem.

^^Thanks guys. I guess I'm paying for TPMS sensors then

Related question though - if you run with no sensors, does anything more than a warning come up? On my older cars, at worst it was a TPMS light on the dash. Just wondering if the BMW system would react any differently...

If anyone knows, appreciate the heads up. Thanks!

Well in VT you will not pass inspection if the dash light is on, regardless of if the actually equipment is installed or not. It might be different in Canada and other states. I didn't bother on my last car but changed my mind this time.

I bought the sensors the X3, but my M235i was fine without them. It might lock you out of driver modes like sport without them, but that's speculation since my 235 behaved normally.

I have had 2 4WD pickups and 3 AWD subaru's. At the end of the day. Good snows are as good as it gets for AWD. Ground clearance make is difficult (but not impossible to get through more than 8" of Snow and foresters hav about the best clearance and an AWD at least as good as BMW's (I'll be charitable here). A pickup will get at least 16" and possibly 20" If you are looking for more than 8" to maybe 10". Get a 4WD truck..seriously.

Ask me if I ever got my trucks stuck in 18"...yea...

Wanted 19" but couldn't find Haka 9 for them so ended up with 20" with Haka 9. Would have preferred narrower tires but the Haka's are the best winter tires in the world so hope it will be ok. Will post pic of set up when I have them mounted in a few weeks

Yeah I'm sure you will be fine. But 19" would be even better.
I'm about to order 225/60-18 now. Not sure yet about the rims though.

Did you go for square setup, or staggered like oem 20"?

Went for square set up. Definitely didn't want 275 in the back

That would have been nasty. :-)

Hey guys just an FYI:
245/50R20 does NOT fit on our vehicles.
I ordered a set of Michelin X-Ice Xi2 light truck tires, mounted on 20x8.5 ET32 wheels. I was assured by my vendor that these will fit but they did not. I test fitted in the front and although the wheels cleared the brakes, the suspension sat on the tire.

Happy I test fitted them now and not a week before first snow fall!

Thanks for the data point.

It sounds like you need a different offset or spacers to fit a tire that size ?

Should be a different tire height. Stock is 8x20 ET27 (245/45R20).
