Factory installed hitch and kick to open hatch
On vehicles with a factory installed hitch, the kick to open hatch does not work. Why in the world would BMW not relocate the sensor for the kick to open hatch feature on vehicles with a factory installed hitch?

Obviously, you can’t prove anything you don’t have, so why even respond to something you don’t know the answer to?

I'll take no kick sensor until they make that into a setting you can change on iDrive. I had an X1 with a kick sensor and aftermarket hitch and that thing has opened itself more than a few times while I still had my bike on the rack. There's been a few scuff on the trunk and a dent on my license plate because I walked near the back of my car with the bike rack on the hitch.

Maybe they disable for fear of tow chains or trailer wiring triggering the sensor? I have yet to crawl under to see if the sensor is just missing, or disabled by coding. (i do have a north american factory installed hitch).
I had it on my F25 with a dealer installed factory hitch and never had an issue with accidental / inadvertent hatch opening. Frankly, i don't really miss it much and knew from the forums that i would not get it with the hitch, but am curious as to why it is removed. |
