I did a search but haven't come across other posts about this.

My rear spoiler is squeaking like mad, driving me (and my wife) insane.

Stopped the car the other day and took everything out of the boot, including the boot cover to no avail. My wife even got in the back and listened but then thought it was on the outside. Stopped again, and she discovered that it was the spoiler making the noise.

I had a rant @ dealer, as car was in with them last week!
They were supposed to sort the squeaks and rattles, and according to my App, they didn't take the car out the compound!

Car only has 1300 miles on the clock

Suffice to say after escalating to sales and Service Manager, they are collecting tomorrow, and dropping off X4, and have got the video and ordered the replacement bits for spoiler and have assured me they will fix by replacing most of spoiler. It does appear to be made up of a number of parts

I will let you all know the outcome.

oh men! Sorry to hear that. Glad that you detected it the final cause of the problem.
let us know how it goes

try the X4 in the meantime and think like it is a full test drive and let us know the difference

thanks mate, yep this spoiler makes one heck of a racket, especially when the weather is warmer.

Have always liked the X4, and to be honest would happily have had one over the X3, but the boss wasn't a fan

Not sure the model I am getting, but given it is Sales manager's car, should be a decent spec

M40i collected this morning, but sadly no X4 in it's place, but an X1...Oh dear

Ok, so dealer replaced the bottom half (gloss black) part of spoiler, and showed me the old one squeaking away when pressed. All felt solid and was fine on test drive. So off I went home, but about 15mins in (almost home) the squeak was back! 🤦*♂️ Here is a video my wife took whilst sitting in the back seat this afternoon. Video sent to SA.

Any ideas?

There was a factory recall / safety notification on the rear spoiler for early MY 2018's. The factory wasn't properly torquing all screws and/or missing some screws. I got the notice (my build date was Feb '18), had mine checked at the dealer and they found no issues.

I've never heard any squeaking but I'll pay closer attention to check. Between the exhaust noise and the HK audio system, not sure I could even hear it if it was.

So car going back in tomorrow, with me needing to demo the noise, which I am hoping will not be an issue as it is happening all the time

I have insisted on a decent car, so will be getting another M40i, which I will then be taking on a 400 mile round trip next week

Will feedback on any news on my creak machine

So went out with Master Tech and Service Manager. They could hear the noise (sounds like plastic/polystyrene rubbing together). They wanted an hour to try and fix but could not, so have now left with M40i for the week. Seems to be an area on the boot lid making the noise, wouldn’t be surprised if the whole door is replaced but maybe not. Last I saw of the car the rear was in bits 🤦*♂️

Will update with any news next week most probably
