I believe it shares some chassis and suspension/steering componentry from the previous gen E Class (W210).

FYI (from another thread) -- my run-in experience with a brand new 300C SRT8 (at the time, my car was XEDE-equipped)...

Speaking of a rolling start, let's just say that a Chrysler 300C SRT8 totally got walked today by an XEDE-equipped 335i! :rocks: The SRT8 guy didn't exactly look happy, after his 425HP/420 lb.-ft. TQ 6.1L Hemi V8 couldn't keep up with the little BMW 335i...he probably doesn't know the 335i is a FI twin turbo and he certainly didn't know that this little Bimmer has a little something extra" under the hood." I thought those Hemi V8's (especially the SRT8) have a super powerful top end????

Nonetheless, it was funny to see how baffled and frustrated the SRT8 driver looked! He didn't even give a courtesy thumbsup when he exited...sore loser, I guess!

I understand your point about going to the track (not the "from a roll" thing), but FWIW -- the SRT8 guy didn't get caught off guard for the 20 min. "on/off" exercise of "spirited driving" today. I was just under the impression that the 300C SRT8 was crazy-nuts fast...and IT IS, but apparently, the XEDE-equipped (and PROcede-equipped) 335i is much faster; in fact, I actually think a stock 335i could hang in there or be slightly ahead of this car as well. I also think that many of the Chrysler 300C SRT8 drivers think they're hot sh!t; it's just good to know that they too can be knocked off their high horse by a few select cars, including the 335i, without too much effort.

those ppl on srt and svt boards thought everything imported is overpriced and slow as hell besides domestic products. they forget what else a car has to do besides straightline accelleration.

Seems like they stopped talking. People in that thread dont know whats going on, no one reads the previous post before replying. Than they start picking stupid mistakes. I chat a lot so when i type i dont realy pay attention to punctuation and spelling and since they didnt have anything else to argue about they started bringing that up. Some people on that thread thought M5s and M6s were 13 sec cars and they have never seen one break into the 12s HAHA.

I know. I read most of those pages. I can't believe how many pages you guys made today, wow.

They do seem to have turned and ran away. Dont know if its cause they're in their pick up truck swimming pool drinking lemonade or what. Damn! I wanted to go off on those people. Ah well.

To be fair, stock for stock they are about equal. I did all the research on an SRT8 and only backed out of the deal at the last minute.

Also, to be honest, the behavior being displayed on both boards was embarrassing mid-thread. Thankfully, things got more civil later If anyone takes up the race offer, I'd show up with a "stock" proceeded car and just edge the Hemi out. Remember, racing is cheating.

+1... i mean if going straightline quickly is ur goal... then sure... it's a fast car... but i dont recall any american cars that have ever been noted to be good in the twisties... i mean sure the corvette and viper might be allright... but from what i've read... the handling on those cars aren't close to that of the imports... whether its japanese or european.

they are overpriced... but there are obvious reasons... US gov wants americans to buy american made cars... in addition i'm sure if you talked about the twisties, they would make some lame excuse about not having twisties or no point of driving twisties... at the end of the day, imports are good for regular driving, tracking, and spirit driving (generalizations).

what annoys the thread isnt the race itself...

i also think that from a dig, anything can happen, DTC might be on, bad launch, a 0.1 seconds head start, anything...
because my cuzn raced a 335i with his 530i from a dig, and the 335i couldn't pass him till about 70mph!!!! DTC was on!

what annoys the most about the thread, is that those SRT8 guys really think there's no comparison between a 335i and a 300C SRT8

sdiver....a huge +1 there
HAHA I made the mistakes in the reply on purpose to prove a point. The point I was trying to make was that they have nothing more to say about the cars the only way they can talk trash is to bring up mistakes in my typing. Everything is cool now tho.

funny, a big boat SOHC motor 6 liter is afraid of being compared to a 3 liter I-6 w/ 2 small turbos lol

the build quality is crap...its a chrysler and drives worse than a howitzer tank around a track

SRT-8 beats an M5?...lol that video proves it all

that car doesn't even belong on the same track as the M5

if i wanted straight line performance i'd buy a muscle car and drop in a 454 or something

WOW, some people are just too sensitive to the subject...
Who cares...I'd rather drive my 325 and enjoy it than 2 of the SRT8 tanks...

Who cares if the 6.1 liter engine car beats the 3 liter one...
I guess, if the Bimmer were to build a 6.1 liter engine, it would have had about 750 HP output out of it...shows how much behind the US car manufacturers are..

I just hate how people think the 300C is a Bentley or something...all you see is 22" rims and grilles with people who think they are big ballin or something

People just don't understand the refinement of a BMW no matter what model it is until you drive one

One more anecdotal observation. I saw a Ram the other day and across the windshield was a decal: 'Yeah! It's got a HEMI'.

My thoughts: How many of these guys actually know what HEMI refers to and how many can actually spell Hemispherical without pulling out their old Rush albums (Huge fan - don't flame me).

I'm going to say 25% for both. Actually, I'm assuming that they have rudimentary spelling skills. Maybe I miscalculated that number.

So I'm getting some big decals that say 'Ja! It's got double VANOS Motherfuggaazzzzz' for the front and on the sides, something like 'It's got a Magnesium/Aluminum alloy engine block y'all!!.

Then I'm getting a pair of those bulls testicles and I will dangle them from my tailpipe.

my only question is: did the guy in the 335i know they were racing. ive had that happen to me just driving around town. pull up next to a neon at a red light and dude takes off when the light turns green. catch up to him at the next light and dudes talking shit like he just beat me in a race. i didnt even know we were racing!

It had to be a 328. How could he have know whether it was a 328 or 335 from the front? There are so many variables especially if the BMW was a manual tranny. If the car was new the guy probably hadn't even gotten used to driving that car enough to be fast.

Let's see how well the race goes when it gets to the twisties.

I had a Dodge Magnum Hemi in my last BMW driver's school, he was by far the slowest guy on the track at Watkins Glen. However I have to admit, the Hemi sounded awesome as the guy wound it out down the front straight.

Ummm, the Corvette has always been a world class handler, well at least from the mid-80's on. If you look at "showroom stock" pro and amateur racing series, often the Corvette has a class of its own, it so dominates anything close. Same with Autocross. Here's another hint, in the latest C&D comparo, the Z06 beat the 911 GT3. The Viper is a good handling car in that it's predictable for its size and HP, but really shows it size when things get twisty.

Other than the Vette, though, you are right. I remember the Probe GT was considered the best handling FWD car for awhile...but it's really a Mazda.

Stock for stock the srt8 would win.

I raced my buddies from a dig and i was a bumper behind when we shut down at 100 mph.

Nicely said. I laugh to myself when I see negative comments about the Corvette "image" or comments like "it's only good in a straight line". Most people who make those comments have never driven a Corvette and are going off the comments made 20-30 years ago about handling or build quality etc.

I laugh even more as the people who make those comments disappear in my rear view mirror both in a straight line and in the curves.

I think the 07 z06 is the best bang for the buck performance car in the market. It can keep up with many $100-500K for not THAT much more then well equipted 335i. Yah the interior quality isnt nearly as nice but we are talking pure sport not luxury. I have also heard rumors that the 08s will be jumping the HP another 50 or so on both models!
