The Kia and Dodge look better and more cohesive to me! And that's the truth. If the Dart had the performance #'s anywhere close to the 2GC, it would have been a massive hit. It even came in a manual transmission.

I can forgive the exterior styling. I don’t like it but it might appeal to some. What I can’t forgive is the FWD car masquerading as a BMW.

Might be an ok car, we’ll find out in reviews. But it’ll never be a bmw to me.

Is it odd that the head of BMW M left for Hyundai and now the new cars are starting to bear a resemblance to Hyundai and Kia artifacts. Maybe he took some knowledge with him and was able to execute faster?

Just a thought.

Considering that the genesis of these cars was more than two years ago, it's possible. Whenever you bring in somebody new, with them comes knowledge and experience garnered from the place they came from.

The grill thing is ridiculous. Who signed this off?
It's going to be the LCI before they start fixing some of this.

Why would they go from a 6 cylinder to a 4?? 🤔 was hoping it would have the same b58 as the m340. I'd be sold. Big engine in a smaller car. If this things comes close to 60k I'd rather get an amg cla45

The M235i falls in line with S3 pricing (even less expensive), so I guess these numbers are expected.

M2GC down the pipeline possibly?

They've said that there will be no fwd based M cars. Of course they also said there would be no M SUVs. No M's with automatics. No Z4 M. They've said a lot of things and then done them anyway. So yes, there could very well be an M2GC if demand is high.

I would even go as far as to say it's likely some day.

But there will be no F44-based M2 GC. In fact, I am skeptical that there will ever be any M proper vehicles built on FAAR. Instead, I strongly suspect that BMW will begin developing a dedicated EV architecture very soon and M division will target 100% of their post-G87 small vehicle R&D toward products derived from that platform to be ready for release late next decade.

I want to like this, I do. My love for the brand really started with the e46, as it did for several other people I know. And I've thoroughly enjoyed my e92's. I think both the interior and exterior of those models were sophisticated enough for class driven buyers, while maintaining the sportiness needed to appeal to car/club enthusiasts. For me personally, a car has me interest if it provokes an emotion right off the bat with the exterior. A positive emotion to be clear. But some of the newer model designs and decisions, have made me question the direction they are taking. This one may be one of the worst, in terms of design.

My first thought echoes that of others here, who immediately related it to a Kia from the front and side profiles. The front headlights are funky and look high on the hood line. The same light placement seemed to work "okay" on the new Z4, but is still a drastic difference from the low slung aggressive headlights of the past. On the F44 however it seems to give the overall car a rounder, bubbly type of shape, while making the car look taller. I'm also not in love with the rear end design. Very flat, which contradicts the round looking front end. The same flat back end seems to work fine on the SUVs. But on a small car? Not so much. Again an example of taking the design language/cues from another model and forcing it to work here.

I get it. It's a business. You have to make money with products you know will sell well. But will this sell? Will all the money saved on R&D and design work be worth it, if this car dilutes the brand?

This isn't a 5 series, nor an 8. I don't expect it to be the flagship with all the bells and whistles. Even though I don't agree with basically doubling the brand lineup, with both odd and even series, the 2 series has now inherited the responsibilities of what the 3 series once was. To become the new entry vehicle into BMW. The car you can proudly park in the driveway. The car you can't help but look back at after parking it. The car that makes you take pride in the hard work you put in, to get to this point in life. It should be a symbolic trophy of your accomplishments, and also hold the exciting prospects of what the higher end series have to offer. The vehicle that introduces you to "The Ultimate Driving Machine".

I'm sorry, but for me, this is not that machine.

Why would anyone buy this over an M240i? I mean the costs are similar and the M240i gets the great B58.

Same reason people buy an A3/S3 or CLA/CLA35 instead of an M240i today - they are in the market for a small sedan, not a coupe. Yes, you obviously lose RWD and the six cylinder engine, but for most people shopping for a sedan, a coupe is not even on their radar. That's why sedans outsell coupes at roughly a 10:1 rate (of course SUVs/trucks now sell double the two together).

Where is the separate sub forum for this car? It is just lumped under bmw general. I am actually considering the m235i gran coupe but have to see it in person. I have driven the x2 m35 and the mini jcw already with this engine and it has good punch so it's on my radar.

I believe the company even shunned turbocharging ///M cars at one point as well. Things change, however, and BMW needs to roll with the times just as every other company does.

This.

300 bucks more gets you the m240i? Unless you really love doors the choice here should be obvious from the enthusiast perspective.
