X M competition ( 503) Or XM base (473)
Featured on BIMMERPOST.com That being said , Is the completion package worth it ? Is that extra 30 HP worth it for daily driving ? For anyone who drove the M base and the Competition package , do you actually feel a Big difference in power ? I have to make a decision for my X4 M build this week and i live in the city with red lights everywhere , speed traps , pot holes , etc. Is that Extra 50$ on the lease worth the 30 extra HP for city driving ? |

If you can afford the extra, go for it. You’ll just be regretting it otherwise.

I didn't think it was worth it. I live in Boston, so similar situation in terms of roads. Imo if you want the HP, just go buy a Racechip for 700 bucks and save the money.
That being said, if you want the seats and the X3M Competition badging, the seatbelts, etc then the competition is suddenly more enticing. I personally didn't think that the seats and other amenities were worth an extra 7k to me. Maybe if I tracked the X3M it would be. I only added on the heated steering wheel though, so i may not be your average options purchaser. IMO you don't buy the competition for a slight boost in performance, it's just a more aggressive tune which a racechip can give you. You buy the Competition for the badging, the shadowline, the seat belts, etc. I do like the wheels on the competition, but not enough to pay the extra as the X3M wheels are also amazing. To me, if you want performance, go buy a racechip for much, much less. However, if you want a slight bump in performance stock, and absolutely must have the sport seats, badging etc then the competition may be a good fit. To me I'd rather have a few extra 6 packs to buy a month I think the comp is great for someone who has intentions to track, or the seats are a must have, or even someone who just has a spare 50 and requires the absolute top trim (And there is nothing wrong with that, as long as they are happy) but for a lot of us, maybe the extra 50 could go towards something else. After all, having ONLY 480 HP stock isn't a bad situation to be in by any means Last edited by Maletone; 08-23-2021 at 11:52 PM.. |

I went from a 15 M4 non comp to an 18 M3 comp, I drove both for 3 years each. The difference was barely noticeable in that car. Maybe a few more burbles in the exhaust, but that is it. Could tell one had extra hp in their stock form. This time around, I went with the non comp + sport seats (needed for Tartufo) + 21 wheels + bought all the black bits and pieces of the competition. The savings is about 3.5k and I won't have: - exhaust - extra 30hp + torque - m seatbelts I am also in the minority given that I did not want the honeycomb wheels as I had the very similar 666M wheel in my last M3. Those three things I mentioned are not worth 3.5k in MSRP to me based on my previous experience with the M4/M3. |

seatbelts are worth $7K and add an extra +50HP that BMW does not advertise as the Comp cars are always underrated.

OP, obviously this is a very personal choice that only you can make. Seatbelts are worth exactly $0 for me. For some members it is worth $7k. HP gain is worth something but not thousands of dollars for me. Same story for the exhaust. But everyone has to optimize for themselves. There you go. It's completely personal. Hopefully you can try them both, I didn't notice any real difference in driving dynamics when I tried the cars, but others might have. |

One factor that's not really discussed here is the mandatory shadowline trim that's part of the competition package - that was a deal breaker for me. I realize I'm in the minority here, but I'm not a fan of the "blacked out" look. I'm old school - I like the chrome look.
Would I have paid an extra 7k for the competition package if I didn't have to take the shadowline trim? Hard to say. But it was an easy decision otherwise. |

I got the Competition for the extra HP and exhaust. I knew if I got the base I’d have buyers remorse if I saw a competition. More psychological than anything.

I was in an interesting situation, as I had initially ordered a 2021 Non-Comp X4 M with the "M Enhanced" package in Canada that adds the Competition exhaust, M Seats and 21" 765M wheels. But then the difference ended up being around $3k CDN from a Competition.
Since I had to shift over to a 2022 order since it didn't fill, I had to order a Competition, as they removed the Non-Comp trim for the Canadian market. Otherwise when it came to the Canadian market, the difference between the two were as follows (when factoring in the Enhanced package we were able to order) - Black Kidney Grilles & Side Vents - M Seatbelt accents - 30 hp & 22 lb-ft (LCI) increase (rated by BMW) - 892M wheels (LCI) - Really only for a different look and the slight weight savings you get with them. 765Ms still look great! So while there is a small difference in MSRP in 2020 and 2021 back then, looking back I felt the Competition would have a higher resale down the road if you were to finance or own the car for a few years. But at the end of the day you can't go wrong either way, it all comes down to preference. |

I have all the parts ready to be replaced at home, except the grill that will be available sooner than later. Edited: apologies, I misunderstood your post. I do think blacked out look is mandatory. You should have picked comp and we could have switched parts hehe. |

Non comp for me. I wanted the 20"'s for a slightly better ride.
As it turns out, The car I found (to get a 2020 model) had the 21s and I had the dealer swap them out with 20s, and could have done that with a Comp. But new, the Comp package forces the 21s, which most folks want, but I didn't.

I got the regular model. It didn't make sense to me to spend 3k more to get the comp when the wheels were nearly the same in 2020, I was going to put a tune on it and intended to do an exhaust. So in the end I paid $400 for the black plastics from IND and put the other 2.6k towards the mods.
Now for the 2022 models there is a 3.9k difference in price. But they give you distinct wheels and a couple of other small things. I'd probably still do the same thing and get the regular model and put the 3.5k difference towards mods. If you do the math you're paying a lot of money for that comp exhaust and small tune difference. The aftermarket options for both are MUCH better. Unless of course you really like the new comp wheels or midrand beige interior then go for it. Or you just want the badge. |

In regards to the grill , do you only get the black grill with the comp package ? Online while doing the build , the XM base grill has the chrome accents but the comp is blacked out. Is that correct ?

You can still do that, but the grills are pricier these days. Also note that you get the nicer seats on the comp WHICH you can option on the non-comp anyway. Only other thing is the HP which is arguably noticeable. The rest of the cost goes to just saying you have a Competition |
