On the Land Rover App which slows a full engine start for heating and air con cooling (awesome feature) you to be:-

- Logged into the App via password or fingerprint ID
- Enter your unique 4 digit PIN
- Within a certain distance of the car I forget now

I was always very reassured of the security. It was so good on a cold day.

I also heard this ''coming soon'' reply when I asked about it. BMW knows it's behind with this compared to other luxury manufacturers so they are saying that. I do believe the new X5 does have it?

If it does eventually come to the X3, hard to imagine it working on existing vehicles retroactively via upgrade. Most likely will be integrated in the 2020 with iDrive 7 (and those hideous gauges!).

I enjoyed having remote start on my F150. All cars should have it as standard. Its nice to either warm up the car or cool it.

My wife's 2017 Volvo S60 has a connected app that has a remote start.

So obviously it's not rocket science.

my m40i has a remote start with the auxiliary heater option. Haven't had to de-ice a single time this winter. Works perfectly with the app or the display key

Didn't know this was a thing? Is this like a BMW accessory or factory installed?

I think it's EU only option (not in US at least). It doesn't make sense that this is not available at least in Canada since it can be much colder in many Canadian cities vs most of EU in Winter.

Factory installed and yes it's correct it's not an option for North America. I find this crazy since I know the kind of weather you guys can have there. It really puzzles me how BMW cut down on your options. I guess they have to cut costs as much as possible in order to be in the correct price range. But extra options such as this should still be possible. It surprises me even more given that my car was actually built in the US

Guys, this was never a "technical" challenge. Other countries/regions have had BMW Remote Start long ago. This is, instead, a legal challenge. BMW was still working through the logistics of this offering in the US with our legal system.

LOL - BMW needs to hire better lawyers then since some other car companies are already offering this feature!

Go build a 2019 3 series - it's an option for remote start. I'm hoping the X3/X4 MY2020 will have this as an option too. Clearly "the lawyers" were able to work through it for some of the offerings.

The latest "G" cars (X5, M840, Z4, 3 series) all have the option for remote start. Maybe X3 will get it with the LCI later down the road.

There is a "Layer screen" on the cars that have the feature advising you to follow local laws.

If you are talking G01, I don't think so. Not anywhere.

I am enjoying the remote start as of late since it is -21° F (-51°F wind chill) here in MN right now. But it is on my Ford, not my X3.

I'm not sure if each model gets its' own rules/regulations, but if it was a legal thing, then why did they offer it on the last gen X5 and 5 series as an add on aftersale option? I would have expected it to be offered out the gate on the newer 5/7, but I guess we will hopefully get to see it as an add on to later model years.

That option was later canned after a software update broke it.

remote warming?

Would be a nice feature to have, though I'd settle for being able to remotely turn on the steering wheel and seat heaters. It was mine 1 where I live this morning, 10 degrees now.

Anyone else receive similar information or further details? Not sure how real this is and how plugged in the BMW Genius is to new capabilities.
Just updated the app and it says remote start x5 and new 3 series. USA and Canada only.

This is so ridiculous! All my peeps with new vehicles at work have remote start...fords and dodges, yet BMW can't figure out how to offer it?!?

This is the kind of ridiculousness that will get me to early break my lease and get into the 2020-2021 X3 that conveniently has remote start added to the list of features. Oh and if they add sport seats with the ventilated seat option then this is definitely a no brainer.

I'll read the link now (thank you) but if you know, what do they mean by 'cool the car'? Does it just 'ventilate'? Ventilate would likely do very little if it's a million degrees inside the car but also 30-40+ outside.

I believe it just ventilates with use of fan to circulate the air ,

So in you case remove 90 degrees heat for 40 degrees heat
