I have to replace the struts shocks on my 2012 35i with the dhp package. I personally have never liked the DHP and am looking at the non dhp Bilstein B4 sport or B6 and wondering if physically the dhp struts and shocks are the same as the standard package.

Curious if anyone has done this or knows, thanks

I have the DHP on my X3. I absolutely love it.

I know when it comes time to replace these struts, it will be pricy.

Have you looked at realoem to compare part numbers? On the non-DHP the difference between sport sport and non-sport is the shocks/struts and the bump stops on one end (I think front, but can double check). Sway bars may vary, but specific to shocks/struts it's the pressure in them and one set of bump stops. Sport and non-sport use the same springs, but maybe DSP had different ones?

When going from the non-DHP I know you'll have the following:
1) the shock/strut mounts are different. I think the primary difference is just letting the wire though, but I don't know for sure. You may be able to re-use, or you may need new.
2) You'll have to code out the DHP or put a dummy unit in to trick the car into thinking everything is still setup.

Outside of that, most things will probably bolt into place.

WagonR, so I can confirm that the Koni Special Active Struts will bolt right in place of the factory DHP struts. The body height and piston height, spring perch and end link mounts are in the same location.

Yes I measured the stock struts against the Konis as I just removed them. The only difference is the horizontal fluid valve control passage is missing on the Konis for obvious reasons. The rear struts are the identical sans electric connector, in the front, as long as you use the DHP springs with the upper strut mount, you are ok. I believe the DHP springs have a wider circumference up top which necessitates a different strut mount than the regular suspension, so you cant use the standard spring nor their strut mount. The cables also do not pass through the mount, rather follow the routing of the abs brake pad sensor into the engine bay

The Konis and more than likely the B6 and B4 Sport Bilsteins will also fit given they all fall under the sport dampening option.
