There are two valves, one on each side, and yes, they are accessible while the car is on the ground.
Mine arrived today not fitting till after RIS
Have you fitted yet or any idea how they go together ?
A few bits in bag if you work it out could you take pics and post

My plan is to get to it this weekend.

The metal pins are meant to be crimped onto bare wires, with the rubber sleeves going around them to make it water-tight once inserted into the plastic connectors. In other words, the kit is actually to make/assemble a connection from scratch. For our application we wont be using most of whats included because the connections are already made. We are just using the plastic parts as "caps".

My plan is to just use the plastic connectors to cap the male/female ends once they are disconnected from each other and the flaps. I will use the rubber sleeves to plug the holes and put a little silicone in them to make them water tight.

The process will be simple and Ill take pics, dont be put off by all the bits and pieces, they arent all needed for our application.

I'm confused. What does the exhaust button near the shift lever do? Doesn't it open the valves as well? Is there a difference in sound with that selected vs unplugging the connector?

According to the first post in the thread, disconnecting will keep the flaps open all the time.

Turning that button off will.ask the car to close the exhaust valves whenever it can. It also adjusts ASD if you haven't already disabled that.

Humor & educate me, please. Why would you want to do this? Just for the exhaust sound, or some other reason?

Does anyone have any sound clips with it always on vs when it's turned on with the sport+ drive modes or exhaust button? I can't imagine it being louder than doing these two

Sport+ already has them open. Sport sets them half open when possible, comfort closes them when possible. So the mod makes all modes like Sport+.

Not exactly. Even in sport+ the valves aren't always open. The valves will open/close at various times depending on the engine mode, gear, throttle input, etc. Once you force the valves open 100% of the time you will realize how much they are actually closed, even in sport+.

I'm fairly confident when you're in sport+ they're always fully open. I can't find any evidence to the contrary.

In lower gears yes. But if you are cruising in the highway in 8th gear the valves will be closed to avoid drone. They are open more often in sport/sport+ but still not 100% of the time.

It sounds reasonable, I just was curious to know how you know this. It's not mentioned anywhere in the technical docs.

It's like that for any M car. The active sound piped in really masks the sound of the exhaust which makes it hard to tell when the valves are open or not from within the cabin. If you disabled active sound you would be able to hear the exhaust MUCH more clearly and it would become obvious when the valves were open or closed.

I have ASD disables. On my F80 they were always fully open in sport plus, you'll could see the valve if you looked down the pipes.

The exhaust button on my car is on by default all the time when I start the car. Does that not mean both exhaust valves are open?

Well you must have had an anomaly because it's certainly not that way on my F80 or any others I have seen.

Again, its gearing and throttle input dependent (on top of engine mode). So if you are sitting still and hit the sport+ button then yes the valves will fully open and you can even see it as you mentioned. But once you start driving and shift up through gears 4,5, etc the valves will generally close unless you are full throttle or close to it. Again using my highway example, the valves will be closed if you are cruising in top gear. Have you ever had a valve controller on the F80? That's the easiest way to tell the difference. Once you have driven in a car with the valves open 100% of the time it becomes more obvious how much they actually close under oem operation.

Anyway, not trying to argue here just saying that while the valves are open more often in sport/sport+ they are not open 100% of the time in any situation.
