F97/F98 need to trim some weight! No CF roof, no CF drive shaft in Competition Pack? CF strut bar should have been extended and replace those two metal one on the two side. Would expect 503hp AWD to run at least faster than 3.5s 0-60 from official number. The front/rear tire would have been nicer in 265 / 295 setup. BMW should have opt for flared F/R fenders on F97/F98.

Patiently waiting for G80/G82 M3/M4 specs to come ...

I'm just guessing, but I believe it's because of the electronic parking brake. I'm betting that BMW has a combination floating caliper that functions as the parking brake as well. Honestly, this probably has a net positive gain in performance due to the lower unsprung mass of the caliper as well as not requiring the drum parking brake. Fixed caliper brakes are heavier and provide very little benefit on a road car like this in the rear. The extent of "performance" driving an X3 M will undergo in its life are stop light rag races and excessive speed while weaving in and out of traffic on the freeway. These are not really activities where a fade-free brake system is needed.

Just watched the Facebook video for these. Apparently they only have 4WD and 4WD Sport, no 2WD. Will be interesting to see what that means but it's a little bit disappointing.

It's the zf8 transmission dictating redline. That's max for zf8.

What kinda guy..? Simply saying it's not for me given the price.

Nice vehicle to be sure...but near $100kCAD with tax...crazy. IMO of course.

Why not a X3M pure with a 6 speed manual and RWD I'm curious to know if it will have the same towing capacity as the other X3.

Any engine mated to a torque converter auto will have a similarly low redline. Torque converters deform when they spin too fast. That's why some performance cars have lower a redline when mated to an automatic. That's also why I'll be interested to see what the redline of the M3 Pure 6MT will be.
The torque converter is locked at higher rpms; so there is no slippage. The lock-up clutch physically links the impeller and turbine with the TC, effectively changing the TC into a purely mechanical coupling.

There is no deformity, as you say. When the TC is slipping (is not locked) the limiting factor is heat build up. Programming of the TC stall speed is used to control heat build up and driveability.

What you're referring to is a ballooning effect from centrifugal forces within the TC at very high rpms. I doubt a 7600 rpm is cause for excessive ballooning. The VQ37HR in Nissan/Infiniti applications revs to 7600 with a standard TC equipped 7 speed auto.

BMW's turbocharged inline 6s are all about low-end grunt and rapid spool times. The emphasis, good or bad, has moved away from high rpm excitement to savage low end thrust......really has nothing to do with rpm limitation on the 8HP series ZF transmissions.

Definitely worth the extra $$$ to get the M seats.
overall very nice I agree those seats are worth it
Which the M sport seats are almost identical to the leaked M8 competition. Both have the side bolster finished with Alcantara.

Are ventilated front seats available with the M sport seats? EDIT: updated M sport seat in Sakhir displays ventsZ

It's probably worth noting that "curb weight" includes commonly equip options, looking at OP there are going to be a lot of features standard, and the exec pack probably will be high take rate so curb weight is gonna be pretty much as heavy as it will get

No way lol. 503 HP CP means it's actually at @525+ HP if the scale from the M40i holds. This is 0-60 MPH in 3.5s territory, where it should be relative to the competition in this segment.
Just looking at the numbers provided lol and someone has already cracked 3.8 with the full tune package (ecu and transmission) for m40i. Also, someone else noted this is a good amount heavier.

I really want one of these but I think I'll hold on to the m40i til the x6m comes out. I need a v8 in my life haha

Probably too low volume to justify the additional costs when compared to the M3/M4 which is higher volume for the M///arketing.
