Well to do my part in getting this thread back on track after I derailed it , got my rear lower bumper trim wrapped gloss black. I’m biased but I think it looks really damn good and better in person than pictures. Matches really well with all the other gloss black touches (roof rails, window trim, mirrors, side vents, front grills and boomerangs). It also gives the rear of the car more contrast and dimension because the car is dark graphite. Now I’m thinking of replacing the rear reflectors via IND, and maybe putting the M40i back in gloss black via IND

Exactly. It does nothing...

The people who would be impressed by an M badge are car enthusiasts. They’ll know it’s not a true M and laugh.

The people who would be fooled don’t care or know what M stands for.

IMO non-M’s are still nice cars. Don’t need to pretend because of insecurities.

Looks great! Thought about painting the diffuser white. Either the whole thing or masking a part of it

I agree on putting an M badge on a car that is not even an M. I've seen people put the M badge on a 328 lol they have the body kit and mirrors but they go and slap on the M badge, i told the guy once.. the amount of money you put on this car to make it look like an M3, you could of just gotten a real M3 lol. I'm definitely not a fan of that! I've seen people with Benz doing the same thing. They even went as far as putting fake muffler tips on the other side to make it look like an AMG and they slapped the AMG badge lol

Puny gas guzzling petrol engine!

Have a nice day!
Couple things here. First, the 2020 M40i (at least here in the states) is factory rated at 382 HP, and 365 lb. ft. of torque, at 4.4s 0-60 MPH. So, suck on that. Secondly, that is completely opposite of the point. ITS NOT AN M CAR. ITS A FUCKING DIESEL (nothing against diesels, it’s just not an M engine). It's not about whose car is faster, it's about not diluting the M brand by slapping it on a car thats undeserving. Sure if you like some extra M badges here and there, go for it, but putting an "X3M" badge on the rear trunklid in an effort to make the car appear to be something it's not, is the issue. As I said before, not here to debate. Everyone can do whatever they please to their property. I'm just here to express my opinion that I don't like it!
Thats right same opinion

I have no experience with M cars other than I test drove a 2018 X5M. I ended up buying the 40i. The X5M was fast, but it was also BIG and didn't feel as nimble. To each his own.
The X3 M40i is certainly M enough...but compared to my Beast...Nuff said...

Thanks man! I was actually on the fence about doing it. Walked out to it after a wash on Wednesday and said screw it, let’s go for it. At $150 and being just a wrap, if I didn’t like it, it would be easily reversible. It really looks better than I expected. All dark graphite x3s with M rear bumpers should come this way to add some depth and contrast to the rear end; the stock bumper color just blends in with the dark graphite.

Took off the front grilles and covered the two aluminium diagonal bars with black vinyl as they were too obvious (in Australia we don't get the 'active' vents behind the grilles.

Used gloss vinyl rather than matte. In case anyone's wondering, the exact measurement for each piece of vinyl was 380mm x 80mm

Was tough getting one of the grilles off.

I thought all dark graphite/Sophisto grey M40is already came with a darker lower rear bumper? I must look at mine more closely

I stand corrected... Just checked mine and it's the same as yours was when stock

Now I feel tempted!

The nearest BMW dealer is 228 miles distant in Spokane WA; BMW summoned a flatbed truck and took it there this morning - gratis.

I'd normally be quite upset, but in the grand scheme of how things are rapidly changing I'm happy it can be easily fixed with new parts and paint. Stay safe friends.

Sorry to hear that. Never a fun event.

My wife hit a deer in her X5 a few years ago. Actually, it hit her. She was driving along about 50-60, when a deer JUMPED across the road, smashing into her windshield, then destroying multiple other parts of her car.
