X3 on order...arrives any day now

The past few weeks have flown by, but it feels like these last few days are lasting forever. Can't wait.

Trying to resist the urge to call the dealer every 5 minutes, so figured I'd vent on here

yes, we all know that feeling. It is strange, but after your baby has arrived and you drive it for a couple of weeks you don't understand what the fuss was all about....... and you start taking it for granted.

Yea, went through it with my late 135 and current 328. It's like waiting for the weekend on a Friday.

hope its sunny on collection day! Waited 6 months for my X3 and it lashed it down all day when I collected it - put a damper on it (excuse the pun)

haha. That's a good one. And not so much beyond the truth ! But for the next 3 years I don't think a new X3 will be on my driveway. My wife would kill me...

Congratulations on your new X3!

Would you mind me asking what's the price for building your own instead of buying from dealer's inventory?

While you might be able to negotiate a slightly better price for one already on the lot, you should still get a VERY good price on a factory order. 80% of BMW vehicles sold are custom. Don't let a dealer tell you any different.

Thank you! Takes a little more conversation, but in the end you can always get the price you want if you're persistent. I paid invoice.

Thanks for all your responses.

So far I have been to several dealers in my city, they all try to convince me that -1500 off MSRP on a ordered one or a -2500 off MSRP on an inventory one is the best deal they can get me, which make me a little upset since I was looking for a 7% off MSRP for an ordered one.

Really appreciate many people sharing their buying experiences on the forum, now I know the price dealers give me is definitely not the best deal they claim...

Make sure you are email the fleet manager or internet sales manager. Never go to a lot to negotiate price. Your average salesman will just give you generic discount pricing typically.

Write a general email that lays out the build you want (model, colors, packages, etc) and send it to at least 10 dealerships. Let them know you are prepared to buy right away and you know that you will likely need a factory built. Dealers are often like kids, you need to be very specific about what you want, e.g.:

- This is exactly what I want, no variations
- I am ready to buy right now, so I'm not wasting your time
- I already know this will be a factory order, so that doesn't need to be discussed

This is how I have bought cars for the past 15 years and ALWAYS with great success.

Hope this helps you!

I usually print out the edmunds sheet showing the invoice price along with the exact configuration I'm looking for. It's a good conversation starter.
