My tailgate is malfunctioning, it is the automatic one which open and closes when you press the button on it, anyone ever replaced the motors on it? Car is 2012 x3 35i

Yep, both spindle drive struts replaced for $1000 under extended warranty on '13 X3 35i.

Lucky you, my warranty expired 5k miles ago and it looks like I can get those struts for $250 each and it doesn't look like a hard job replacing it.

I was getting a grinding sound from my spindle drives, which progressed to the hatch not closing completely without a manual push. Both were replaced under warranty
